In true GC on AIM fashion, I'm turning the conversation into a thread: What are your favorite license plate designs, and what would you have on your specialty plate????

ASIGPHI or AA 814; if I could get to a state that allows 8 characters (only Illinois, North Carolina and Florida) it would be ALPHASIG.

One of these days soon, I'm actually going to get plates that say as much of the word 'enchanted' as I can fit.
As for the design, well, anything other than our gross plain yellow Jersey plates.

Unfortunately, CT only allows 6 characters. Otherwise I'd have gone for AEPHI 95, or possibly GRYFNDOR ;)
I'm thinking of going for one of the "Caring for Pets" plates. They have a picture of a dog and a cat. They're standard 3-number, 3-letter plates, but the 3 letters are always DOG, CAT, or PET. Part of the proceeds goes toward animal population control (meaning spay/neuter, not euthanization).
But for now, plain ol' tags for me.

I love it!!!
But I would take any license plate at all, if someone was to give me a Jag! :)
I like the simple plates - the ones where you immediately know, "Oh, that's a Virginia plate." type. I absolutely despise the new Ohio plates - they look too much like diplomatic plates!!
I was issued a plate that said DWEB, so I got a vanity plate: Phil 4:4. It's my favorite Bible verse. Interestingly, I follow a person to work almost every day whose plate is Acts 3. So, when we were both stopped once, I made a comment on what part of Acts 3 so intrigued him. He blushed & said his wife got it for him, since he "acts three"!! :D

I have the MA whale plate! I like all the different MA plates.
my personalized plate would be SEGLA - it's the Swedish word for sailing and the name of my family's boat.

I thought about SSS1365, but that sort of sounds like the name of a ship or something. I also thought about METS4LF, but I'm not feeling too proud of the Mets these past couple of years.

I would love to get the Illinois "I'm pet friendly" plates because they are the cutest thing and the money goes to a good cause -- a spay/neuter program.
I don't care for personalized plates, so I'll never get them. It's funny because my plates now, which are supposedly just random numbers, include 666. My car is satan!!!

Maybe we should get more Greeks in state prisons so we can get Greek letter templates and have actual Greek letters on our plates.

Hahaha that would be funny.
If I were to get personalized plates I'd put something Mizzou related on there. I thought about putting KU SUX, but I decided that wasn't nice. ;) Or else I'd put my nickname, I just don't know. :)

Haven't seen those yet. You could get plates that were personalized to your university. For instance, the Ohio University plate had a picture of the Cutler Hall Cupola on it. I think Ohio State's had the big red "O" (That's to make it easier for Buckeye graduates to understand, I think)
Do they still offer those. If I still lived in Ohio, I would have the O.U. ones.

In PA, that's the one way you can get a vanity plate for free.
As for getting more greeks in prison, I think I'll pass. Let's work on getting more greeks in positions to plan on those plates instead!

Florida has 80 bazillion plate designs. Hopefully in the next few weeks, I'll be getting the new Columbia one if it's available. The money goes towards a good cause.

Virginia has so many choices for plates that I'd go dizzy picking one. My mom had the GMU plate on the solara with MEGSKR on it because she was planning on giving it to me, but that fell through. Once I get my Mazda6s I'm getting 6Y ANGEL on my plates (but it's going to be registered in TN like my Nissan is). My ex's dad's Impala SS has C-YA AMF on his plate, which stands for 'See Ya, Adios Mother F***er' but he told the people when he ordered it that it means "Adios My Friend" :p

ok... question about the ohio plates. i've heard that if you don't have them already, the old plates have to be replaced this year. does anyone know if that's true?
i don't know what i'd put on vanity plates, but i wish i could have kept the original plates on my car. my car is a (VERY low mileage) 93, the plates ended in 093, and I graduated hs in 1993.:)

ha!! Funny you should mention that--- I live in Missouri-- my family however bleeds crimson and blue---- we joked (decided the new car would get keyed, as the plate probably wouldn't get approved) we were going to get the MU plate(the one with the tiger)-- and for the letters "SUX"
So instead we filled out the papers with the following choices-- (MO allows 6 letters and one space or hypen)....
RK-CHLK
RKCHLK
FRK SHO
GO JHOX
and the last 2 I cannot remember-- but they were KU related!!!!
--yes the 3rd choice is Freak Show-- I really wanted this-- although I really like the first choice. I am sure we would get much unwanted attention with the FRK SHO.

Those Ohio Bi-Centennial plates are a bit much! But it does remind me that 2004 (next year) is Ohio University's Bi-Centennial. Wish I could have OU Bi-Centennial plates on my car!

My mom has always wanted to get a UF vanity plate that says IM4UGA, but she decided she didn't want to give any money to UF.
Personally, I like the vanity plates that Florida offers, but I wouldn't want to customize it. I just like the plate to match the car :)

When I had to get a new plate for my car, I was so excited, because the one I was issued had SK in it. But I'm not driving that car anymore, so oh well. If I could get custom plates I'd get SIG KAP
SK WSU
SIGMA K
Or just get the collegiate plates for WSU

I have a personalized lisence plate. I got it when I was 16, so unfortunately it is not GLO related, but I still like it.
"99 CIVIC"
I was really crazy about cars and it was all hooked up, but now its just regular. everybody comments on how cute it is though.

HOW TRUE!!!! I wish we could return to the days of the strange blue/teal color. At least it was unique. When I can afford one, I fully intend to get either the conserve wildlife, or shore to please plates, or something fun.
I don't know what I would get on my Jersey plates, but should I ever move out of state:
JERSEY GIRL

Too bad you can only have 5 letters on the UF plates.... :D
If I ever get a car, I want to get a UF license plate, on the condition they change back to the old UF logo design. After we won the 96 football nat'l championship, they changed the UF plate to a commemorative plate. It was nice 6 years ago, but it's really time to give it up, and go back to a logo plate like the rest of the schools.

This reminds me of a funny thing one of the guys in my chapter did.
He submitted an application for a vanity plate. Our chapter name is "Mu Tau". So he submitted the app and was approved. 6 months down the road, he recieves his newly minted plate, fresh from the state penn.
It reads:
MV TAV
Moral of the story: Write neatly when you apply for vanity tags.

Clarion is trying to collect orders (we need 300, only have 200 so far) for vanity plates w/ a big ole eagle head on them. I would get one in a second if they had the old 1980's CUP Pac-Man logo on them. :p
I'm sure Pitt and Penn State alums here have tried to get (respectively) PSU SUX and PITT SUX.

It depends on the State. some require plates on the front and back bumper of the car, others only require them on the back.
I think a vast majority of states require them on both the front and back though.

I would like a license plate that says:
ESP 1995 (if I lived in a state that allowed 7 characters on the plate)
004 ESP or
ESP 004.
That is if I had my own car. Of course I would love to have this license plate (if I had still lived in NY):

I do have a personal plate that I too got before I joined my GLO. It's STL2MIL. If I could change it for free (which will never happen) I think I would get the plate with the Michigan State "S" on it and put behind it IGDLT since those plates with school letters on it can only have 5 letters/numbers on them.
Here's what it would look like if I did it. It looks really cool.
