Hey everyone! Thought I'd start this thing since recruitment is a little over a month away! As for some background info...here's some links to threads that I have posted regarding me and rushing....
http://forums.greekchat.com/gcforums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34262 <---which is talking about why I want to join a sorority
http://forums.greekchat.com/gcforums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24546&perpage=15&pagenumber=6 <----my situation in general...an overview of me! :D
I just turned in all my recruitment forms, etc. this past Thursday..and since I'm on campus, I turned it in personally to the secretary at the Panahellenic Building (who was really nice by the way, we had a little talk about pictures and stuff, even being inside the building itself put a smile on my face) and got it in during the "early registration", etc. Now, all I can do is concentrate on my second summer session class, getting my books for the fall, and awaiting rush! Perhaps going shopping for some new cute stuff, but I basically have everything I need, so the waiting process, although only a month or so, will be killer. Good luck to the other PNMs!!

How wonderful! Deciding to go through rush was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Try checking out the national websites of the GLO's on your campus; they'll give you lots of information on the group in general, as well as links to collegiate chapters' websites. If it's available, look at the sites of the chapters at your school, as well as any Greek Life pages your university has. That helped take the edge off of waiting for rush for me! Good luck with rush, even though you guys sound like you don't need it. :D

Thanks guys! I'm really excited! here's another question though....how short is too short and how low/revealing is too revealing? Also...are flip flops okay? We don't have houses here at UT, its a big building with suites that we go to and I hear that the building is boiling! Any tips on what to wear would be great thanks!
Silverblue
07-16-2003, 04:14 PM
If you think it might be too short or too revealing, it probably is. Don't take the chance. Flip-flops would be fine for orientation, but not after that. And please, no prom dresses at pref. The year I went through, several girls wore the same dress that had been very popular that prom season. They stood out, but not in a good way. Dress to show the actives you respect them and the process.

07-16-2003, 06:52 PM
I agree with Silverblue - if it's questionable, then I'd pass. The way I see it is that you shouldn't look like your clubbing or trying to pick up men ;) I know that the Panhellenic Building can be warm, but you can dress nicely and appropriately without revealing too much and not getting too hot!! :)
Silverblue
07-16-2003, 06:55 PM
And remember, this is a very conservative area in the Bible belt. Some of the chapters at UT have regular Bible studies. If you think something is too short or low-cut to wear to church, don't wear it to rush!

Hi Pam,
I'm a fellow Tennessean (MTSU). What my sisters and I always say in regards to dressing up (i.e. for meetings, etc.) is "If you wouldn't wear it to church, it's probably not appropriate." Not to say that you have to wear something with a turtle-neck (certainly not), but just use your better judgement and don't wear something that screams "cleavage" because you're trying to impress GIRLS here, not GUYS. ;)
Another thing that has been mentioned in other threads is that it's a good idea to wear a cute "conversation" piece of jewelery or other accessories- something that will help the sisters identify you later.

Instead of flip-flops, find some cute, dressy, strappy sandals. That should keep you comfortable and still looking nice.

 Wait, which sororities hold regular bible studies? That might be an issue since I'm Jewish...I know that some are "christian-based" and whatnot but have all different religions in their sorority. Is mentioning that I'm jewish important during rush?
Silverblue
07-17-2003, 06:39 PM
None of the sororities discriminate on the basis of religion, so don't worry about that. As far as I know, Pi Phi does not host weekly Bible studies -- it didn't when I was there, and we have no "chaplain" officer -- but they are not mandatory in the chapters that do. You need not mention your religion, as it shouldn't matter. On the other hand, if you want to mention it, feel free to do so. Diversity is a good thing! The chapters that offer Bible studies will tell the rushees about the Bible studies as a selling point, simply because this area is predominantly Christian -- though we have a good-sized Jewish community as well, with at least one awesome female rabbi. You have to decide if belonging to a chapter that offers Bible studies would make you uncomfortable, even though you wouldn't be required to attend.
I'd venture to say that most if not all of the national orgs that were founded before the turn of the century were founded in Christian principles. I know Pi Phi was. But most of the sororities' founders were Christian, and some of their colleges were affiliated with churches, so it was only natural. However, times have changed, and sororities' membership reflects that.
DZHBrown
07-17-2003, 06:48 PM
I think it just depends on the chapter on if they hold Bible studies, but I've never heard of them being mandatory. I think it's just an "if you're interested" kind of thing.

my chapter has had jewish women, and women who considered themselves atheist as well. they never had any problems, and i don't think you will either.

Me too!! I'm also a little bit concerned about that, but hopefully everything will be fine!

Check out the websites...if there are Bible quotes, Bible study mentioned PROMINENTLY (as in more than chapter aerobics or whatever) or something like "we as members of XYZ all glory in Jesus Christ" (I've seen this on a chapter of a national group) you might not want to go there. Other than that, I wouldn't worry.
This is why I get kind of antsy when I hear about chapter Bible studies (or any other sort of religious or political thing within the chapter)...it might make PNMs feel uncomfy. An all-Greek Bible study would be a different story.
Silverblue
07-18-2003, 04:14 PM
Chapters that do have optional Bible studies likely will mention them during rush, which allows rushees to cut that group if they're not comfortable with that, instead of being blindsided with that information after pledging. Only you can decide if you'd be comfortable belonging to a group knowing that one of their activities doesn't match your beliefs. Would that make you feel excluded? On the other hand, you may consider it a small part of the overall picture, like not playing on the chapter softball team if you aren't athletic. It's your call.

Suggestion....if you are worried about it, mention it and also maybe look into sororities that were founded with Jews....at my campus SDT and AEPhi are known as the 'Jewish' ones for that reason and you see alot of Jews in them (both of course have there share of non-Jews also, but something like Bible studies will never happen there!)..Good luck to you and the rest of the PNM's on rush!

UT doesn't have SDT. It used to have AEPhi. One of my mother's close friends was in it. This was in the 1950s. I don't know when the chapter closed.

Pam/Rachel,
I hear you loud and clear. I am of Jewish decent-- when I went through I was actually VP of our campus Hillel--- and I remember going into one of the houses during recruitment and hearing a chapter president read the sorority creed, which said, "I believe in the high ideals of Christian womanhood" (I am paraphrasing) and I TOTALLY FREAKED OUT. This was at prefs and I was in LOVE with that sorority. I was so confused.... I went to the next house, which was made up of mostly Jewish sisters. I enjoyed spending time with those women, but even more, I realized that other house-- where I had a momentary panic attack, was really where I belonged.
Today, I'm so glad I didn't let a couple of words get in my way, b/c I have made some of the best friends of my life in Alpha Delta Pi. And no that's not a shameless plug for my sorority, it's just the gosh-honest truth.
Anyway, join a house for the women who are there, ask good questions and get straight answers. Be yourself. The sororities you are rushing are not religious orders; they are historically Judeo-Christian values-based organizations. Don't let a couple historical references scare you off. Some of the sororities do have bible study, but some have academic study-buddy programs, etc., and all of those things are optional, based on your needs and interests. There is no NPC sorority that has a mandatory bible study for its members.
Hope this helps.

A question for actives and alumni: How has being in a sorority been beneficial to you personally? I was thinking about that this weekend and I would love to know :) Share your answers if you'd like :D
adpiucf
07-22-2003, 11:40 AM
Good lord, I am the poster child for how a sorority can benefit a person! :)
I can honestly say I have made my best and closest friends through my sorority. While many are my sisters, still many are not, but I would never have met those friends had it not been for our connection to ADPi. In college, enjoyed the experience of living in the sorority house, having the experience of going to school events like football games, etc., with HUGE groups (which makes it ever the more interesting and fun!), and just such unique little fun things.... it just made college even more amazing.
The working world: Every internship in college, every professional opportunity I have had-- again, the sorority networking! Whether it was a sister who recommended me, a sister who was my boss, a fellow Recruitment Counselor passing my name onto her intern employer, or my sorority house roommate's oldest sister taking me under her wing when I moved 3,000 miles away--- the friendships you make not only enrich your life personally, but 1000x professionally.
As an alumna, I moved away from my state not long after graduation. I knew about two people, and then I joined the Alumnae Assoc in Los Angeles. Now my closest and dearest friends are the sisters I have met through the association. It's funny, too, b/c even though we are all from different colleges and universities, I have yet to meet an ADPi that I couldn't see fitting into my own chapter. I think most sorority women feel that way, too. It's a great comfort to know you can pick up, move and start all over in a new place... but your sorority will always be home, no matter what phase of life you are in. I can't emphasize enough that sorority life is not just a college thing, just an eosteric ritual, just a status symbol-- it really is a way of life. A lifetime experience.
As you can see, the benefts are many. But they don't come overnight. Friendship is something you have to work out, so come around, show your face, call people--- you'll be richly rewarded for making the effort :)

Pam, I joined my sorority as a junior, too. Some would ask why bother, but it was the best choice I ever made! I had lots of personal benefits, but I'll just give you a little synopsis :)
Of course, I have met some of the most amazing women that I know I would have never known. That's not limited to my chapter, either. I've met women all over the country and have very close friendships with many. I also gained quite a bit of leadership experience. I held several offices both in my collegiate chapter and as an alumna that provided me with many skills that are beneficial in the professional world. I also have a fabulous support system through my most difficult times. There are other ways I've benefitted, but those come to mind first!!

Texas*Princess and Pam,
Thanks for letting me share :) I think one of the greatest things about sorority life is that it really is what you make of it, and that the effort you give and the kindnesses you show come back to you many times over. I also think that the greatest thing about about being a sorority member is not just that I can claim my own sorority affiliation, it is that I (and we all!) have that added connection and value of being Greek and having shared something so wonderful that we look out for one another. I don't know who coined the phrase, "No matter the letter, we're all Greek together," but it is perfect!
I can't wait for recruitment to begin for all of you collegians, both sisters and PNMs! :)

I bet your Rho Sigma will call or something really soon. My rush is just 4 days away, and my PX just called today. When I was talking to her, I went all blank for questions to ask her. I felt like saying, "I don't really have many questions, everyone on GC has me so prepared, I feel like an old pro at this" LOL I really hope she doesn't sugar coat everything just to reassure us. I'd rather her be straightforward then to let us get false hopes. Though I doubt that would happen. This morning was orientation...we met our Gamma Chi's and met the girls we went to the parties, etc with. My GC is soo sweet and very helpful! The girls I went through the parties with, though a lot of them freshman, were really down to earth and nice girls and I'm so excited to see where they end up also! I met sooo many wonderful girls today. Rush is definitely a great way to make contacts!
Okay on to the parties! I went to 14 different sororities today, I'm not going to go into too much detail about ones individually since today (so long! 2-8:30) was open house, but I will add that there were some groups that were very interested in finding out who I was, what I was interested in and enjoyed being there themselves, and then there were others that made me feel like "oh great another group, here we go" and were acting fake, I could definitely tell that off the bat. Most of the girls I talked to I had something in common with. I was introduced to a lot of the presidents and VPs and recruitment chairs, which I figured to be a good sign. Though many of the girls were exausted (AND showing it, complaining a lot, etc) I was chipper and upbeat and stuck with it in a totally positive attitude till the very end. I was complemented on having a great attitude throughout the process. Tomorrow is the first invitation response where we find out who cut us and which parties we will be attending on Monday. So thats all for now! I'll post more tomorrow!

I got my invites today...I got cut pretty heavily because I'm a junior and I totally understand that. I got asked back to 4 houses and I'm happy with the decision! Its kind of cool because now I really feel wanted. After the first round of cattle heards and everything, they liked me the person, so I'm very excited about that. I'm not sure which parties I go to tomorrow, if I go to all of them on the same day or if they are broken up, BUT looking over the notes I jotted down in my PNM book, I remembered enjoying meeting the girls a lot. After a LONG rush yesterday, I was so tired I just passed out on my bed lol. Anyway!
I was asked back to...
Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Xi Delta
Delta Zeta
Pi Beta Phi
I'm going to name them using Seinfeld names lol. Okay I'm gonna use Kraemer, George, Elaine and Jerry....and they will be in no particuluar order :D I'll post later!

Classes started today, but I wanted to post to tell everyone about the parties! Well I went to Jerry, Elaine, and George on Monday and Kraemer yesterday. Out of the 4, Jerry and Kraemer are my two top, but this is just the first round!
In Jerry I had a lot of fun and I had a lot in common with the girl I talked to. The party went by too fast and I was sad to leave it. I definitely saw myself in that house. It was weird because people say that when they are in the house, they know..I felt it. it was weird, but again its only round 1.
In Elaine, I had fun as well in that house. The girls were more laid back and not AS talkative, but still interested and really excited to talk to me and the girl I was with. We also had a lot in common and the craft we did was really sweet, it felt like it lasted a little longer than Jerry but still went by rather quickly.
In George, the girls' chant was really catchy, I had it stuck in my head since it was the last party. They were a lot of fun and I asked a couple of the girls why they decided to rush that sorority and they said that they liked it becausethey were real and could be themselves. I definitely saw that. There was a lot of diversity in that house in terms of one group of people that I noticed, which was cool.
In Kraemer, I liked their set up of how they explained their philanthropy. I was excited when I learned about their creed and philanthropy because I had dealt with an experience that a friend of mine had with that particular situation. So I had something to talk to them about! :)
We'll see what happens today. I find out who and if I get invited back to any. My time is at 4:25 so we'll see!! Wish me luck! And good luck to the other PNMs!

News News News...I got cut by 2 but 2 kept me...Kraemer and George kept me and Jerry and Elaine cut me. I was upset about Jerry because I thought there was a connection. I didn't have as strong feelings about George, but they were above Elaine in terms of the girls that I bonded with at the parties. I am giving both a shot, tomorrow is skit night and I hope things go really well with George and Kraemer. Right now, my favorite is Kraemer and I hope they pref me!! But anyway..just wanted to post since you all wanted to know I'm sure. Talk to you all soon.

:( Thought I should post the bad news...I got a call from my gamma chi...I didn't make it through pref night...got cut. I fell through recruitment and its hard for me to look in the mirror and tell myself that...I really thought I had a shot going through as a junior, but I guess i was wrong. There is COB...but I dont know how I feel about that. I already feel embarassed enough telling everyone and anyone about this whole thing and now its like...ooh I fell through. I just feel like COB now (not before for some reason) is pitying me. I may as well tell you who the sororities were...Jerry was DZ, Elaine was AZD, George was Pi Beta Phi and Kraemer was Alpha Chi Omega. I thought they liked me, I really did. I guess I was totally wrong and I'm trying to think things over about how others really view me. Anyway, thats the end of my rush thread, man I thought it was going to be positive for once. Oh well...kind of hard to be upbeat now. Thank you all so much for being there and trying your best to get me as far as I could go. You all have really been supportive and great and i'm sorry things didn't work out. I kind of feel like I let you all down by building up suspense and all that, but anyway. hope to talk to you all soon.

I am so very sorry to hear this. But hold your head high! You gave it a shot as a junior at a very competitive campus. We all admire you! You have nothing to feel embarassed about.
I know it is hard to imagine considering COB, but if it is an option, I urge you to check it out if you feel you still might enjoy Greek life. Many, many wonderful women join GLOs through COB.
COB is a great option for both sides -- it allows for a slower pace in a more relaxed setting. It's still a mutal selection process -- not pity in any way. Many times during formal recruitment, chapters simply don't have the time to get to know every woman and, alas, gems are sometimes lost!
COB gives both the chapter and the potential new member a second chance. :)
No matter what you decide, we all wish you the very best!

As a fellow junior that didn't get invited back to pref let me say this:
We have NO REASON to be embarrassed. We tried something we wanted without fear of ridicule (which in my case came from some because of my age.) How many people can say that in every day lives without hundreds of people watching? We did it in a high profile setting WITH hundreds of people watching.
Keep your mind open to COB - You've waited this long, you''ve tried this hard - One more try may be all it takes.
BIG HUGS to you Pam!

We were both really nervous about going through as older girls. things may not have worked out as you hoped, but you did make an impression on these girls, a great one I'm sure. Limitations hurt everyone. Perhaps COB will be a great chance for the sisters to take lots of PNM's like you! Girls they loved but had to cut. I just wanted to jump in and encourage you to try to COB, as well. I joined through COB, and believe me, it's definitely not a "pity bid." A sister is a sister, no matter how she joined. And, even if you don't get to COB, alumnae initiation is always another possibility. Just because you were not able to join from formal recruitment doesn't mean that all doors are shut to you. I know there's nothing we can say to stop those cuts from hurting. But please, please don't feel that you've let us down. You were so generous to share your story with us, and we would hate to think that we are contributing to your sadness even in the tiniest way. YOU tackled an uphill battle and gave it your all; how could we think that you had let us down?
There are so many ways to get involved on a big campus; I hope you'll explore singing groups, religious groups, public service groups, club sports, publications. To be perfectly frank, sororities do not have any kind of monopoly on helping you find a lifelong group of close college friends who you love like family. You can find that without COB, without AI, without greek life at all.

pam, you did a great job this week!!! don't think that just bc you got cut means that no one liked you!!!! as we have all said, there are a zillion superficial reasons- grades, class standing, etc.- that would have nothing to do with how the chapters thought of you as a person! take a peek a cob, bc you never know what you will find. plus, as my wise sister, deltabetababy, just said, there may have been a push to take more younger girls in formal, but that doesn't mean they won't pick you up afterwards. see what chapters are having cob events right after rush and see what they have to offer!! good luck with your decision!
Moxie
08-23-2003, 01:41 PM
pam, i think you should be proud of yourself for getting through the week, in general. it's SUCH a stressful time and many girls drop out - you had the initiative to go through even though you knew it would be hard, and you kept going even though the week wasn't all pansies and roses. you can always try COB like people have said, but you should also be glad that you had the guts to experience this and you should NOT take it personally.

I dont mean to sound pessimistic, but I dont think you should counting on a snap bid from AXO. I know that in my school, usually only a couple chapters have to give them and even then it is just a couple of girls. If SK likes you enough to invite you to pref, I say just go.

I can't say I agree or disagree because I have no knowledge of UT-K or AXO or anything else, but going to SK's pref will not affect your chances of getting a snap bid at AXO.
In fact, it may help, because AXO may see that you completed recruitment but did not match, instead of seeing that you withdrew early.

I agree with everyone so far, especially DeltaBetaBaby. Going to SK's pref won't hurt your chances of getting a snap bid from AXO.
Don't worry about what you are supposed to say. They all will know that there was some kind of mix up. Just have a normal conversation. Catch up on all the questions you would have liked to have answered the first and second rounds.
Good Luck!!:D

Pam,
You could go to SK's Preference and still put ACW first on your preference card. You could theoretically put SK last on your card, or not at all.
My suggestion would be to go to Preference and see how you feel. At the end of the night, if you're not feeling it, you don't have to put them on your card-- heck, you don't even have to sign your card. But by all means, don't eliminate your options.
Good luck.

I'm a big believer in things happen for a reason...for some reason you are being magically brought back to SK...check it out...you can go from there on what decision you want to make...you have no obligation to sign a bid card.
...after the Pref you may be dying to sign it though, whether it's SK or AXO.

Yea, I think that this rho sigma seriously needs to get her facts straight before she calls and tells you that you're invited to pref...I mean that's totally not at all cool. Well, I hope that COB works out with Alpha Chi!

Hey Pam - I have been reading your thread (whenever I am able to get on the internet!) and crossing my fingers for you every step of the way - now to know that AXO is in your heart, makes me ache for you even more! Any chapter would be lucky to have you, and if they can't see that, then they are missing out!! This ESPECIALLY goes for AXO!
Having gone through many recruitment sessions, I can tell you that I always tell them not to discount the older girls -- yes, having freshmen is better for longevity with the chapter, but they often lack the maturity and grace that they need to be responsible!!
I pledged as a junior, and have been WAY more active for the Fraternity through my alum status than any freshman :p
Don't discount snaps or COB's -- or informal recruitment if chapter's on campus offer it. It doesn't mean they pity you, or are less desirable chapters - it means that they saw something special in you, and you can be just what they need to get some new energy sparked!!
Regardless of how it works out in the end, you are a trooper and you have done no shame to yourself or to us - you only make us believe more strongly that saying "no" automatically to juniors isn't always a smart move! Best wishes to you always!!!

Well said, 33girl!
I was extended a COB bid, and was thrilled that AOII wanted me. Trust me, I've never heard of anyone being extended a "pity bid" anywhere. If you are extended a bid--whether it's through Formal or a Snap Bid or Open recruitment/COB--it's because that sorority wants YOU. I've been part of AOII for almost 20 years now, and I can state that it hasn't made a difference all about how I got to AOII.
I don't know if anyone will have COB at UT-K, but if you're interested make sure to ask someone and follow up if need be! There's nothing wrong with asking and letting the recruitment staff know you'd still be interested in joining a sorority! Good luck!

i am chiming in on the COB idea. Don't let one event get in the way of your dreams. I have never been thru formal recruitment nor does my house participate in it, but our events are similar to COB events, so I have heard. You get to know more girls... you aren't forced to leave to go to another one after 30 minutes... people are more relaxed.
Also, try a local sorority. Particularly ones that are associated with Panhellenic if possible. (I don't know who is at your school.) The way I figure, a greek is a greek, regardless.

I really have to agree with everyone that COBing would not be pity. If they didn't want you, they wouldn't take you, period. Formal recruitnment has so many restrictions and rules, COB may be perfect for the house to let in all the girls they really want to. Go for it like you did for formal!! It could pay off big time!

Maybe there was some kind of mix up in Panhel that we don't know about. I was a PX last year, and weird mix ups can happen. I know sometimes a member of Panhel would just tell me to take an action and I would follow. Maybe her PX was just following orders? There is always a possibility that she is a SK, but maybe we should let RedFox call Panhel and see if she can find anything out?

Pam, I am so sorry that things have not worked out so far. Please consider COB - it seems to be a good and more informal way to meet more members and make an informed decision. You should be proud of yourself for what you have done - many girls would not have wanted to rush.

I'm feeling a lot better than I have been these past couple of days...I found out that my GX is a Pi Beta Phi...haven't heard from her since but i got a couple phone calls from girls in my rush group asking if I was alright and we are still friends..adorable girls. Usually (at least at my school), the sororities that will be having open bidding will have COB parties. They are generally much more relaxed than formal recruitment and a lot more fun, I think! I would either contact the sororities and find out who is having parties and when or be on the lookout for advertisements. Don't discount any sororities you didn't like or that cut you - start with a fresh slate! You may find qualities about them you didn't see before since the atmosphere is more relaxed and vice versa!

Just want to echo DZHBrown's advice! This is a whole new ballgame, and actually, a little more realistic. Any friends you've made in the various chapters or your Rho Chi group who are in sororities that are COBing - let them know that you're interested! They are just as interested in having people come to their COB parties as you are in going!

COB is a great way to go! AS most people on GC know, my chapter did not do so hot in formal recruitment. We have been COBing since Bid Day(the 18th) and have gotten 7 new girls- one of which is a JUNIOR! I think COB is a wonderful way for you to get to really know the girls. I know I am more comfortable at COB parties than formal parties and the girls get to know the real me that way.
Whatever you do, Good luck!

Go through COB it is a great experience, and many of the chapters are more at liberty to take the older girls they had to pass on during formal. As someone else said formal recruitment has so many rules regarding cuts and things. Please keep in mind that sometimes cuts (especially early on) have nothing to do with you as a person and going to a COB party can give you and them a second chance to make a good fit.

Pam, every school does it differently, but usually any of the women who signed up for rush but didn't pledge is contacted by the various sororities for COB. At my school, it was not considered gauche to contact any of the (geniune) friends you've made and tell them you're interested in COB. Some schools have a more structured COB, or at least have a second Pref. It wouldn't hurt to contact the Greek Advisor and find out what the tradition is for YOUR school.
Most of all, keep that wonderful attitude of yours, and best of luck to you!
AOIIBrandi

Usually with COB the org has an open party for anyone that is interested, could be as informal as a bowling party or as formal as pref was. You still have to meet the school's minimum standards for rush ie. GPA, good standing... Sometimes they advertise, sometimes it is word of mouth. There are no cuts it is usually just one evening and then they make their decisions. They will usually tell the women at the party to be home at a certain time on a certain day, and that is when they will notify you.
You may attend more than one COB, but remember that the orgs make their decisions and extend bids quickly during this time. It is not like rush where you will get the chance to see several groups at one time. You should only COB groups you think you can see yourself in and would accept a bid from immediately, if offered, because if ABC extends a bid you can't really tell them you need to wait a week because you still want to go to COB at XYZ.

There was definately a mix-up in Panhellenic. Apparently there was a huge computer problem and that is what prompted Gamma Chi's to contact people and tell them about a sorority giving an invitation to a girl and it ending with it not being true. Yes, it is frustrating but it wasnt the Gamma Chis fault.

RedFox,
Definitely contact the Panhellenic Advisor and ask what groups will be doing COB. That way you'll have an idea of where you can go. Don't be pressured though by the fact that you may get a bid quickly and you have to decide on the spot. If you need a day to think, that's ok.

Are you heading over to sorority houses Tue or Panhellenic? If you are goin to Panhellenic, ask which chapters are holding events. Ask about how this process differs from formal recruitment, right on down to attire.
At the sorority houses-- Just like in formal recruitment, ask all the same questions and talk about your assets, just as you would have for a formal recruitment party. If you are warming up to a chapter, tell them that you like them, you feel comfortable, you really admire their sisterhood, etc. Don't be afraid to talk about your talents and attributes that make you an outstanding prospective member-- your performing talents, that you will be in school another 3 years, GPA, your unique experiences, etc.
Best of luck!

Best of luck with COR (recruitment rather than bidding)! Like many have said, it's a MUCH more relaxed atmosphere to get to know members of the sorority. Our chapter usually went bowling, watched TV in our chapter room, or even had a Super Bowl party as COR events. Those chapters would be lucky to get a sweetheart such as yourself as a sister! :)

I just wanted to bring this quote back down -- these are some great words of wisdom!! I know that in the past for COB's, some PNM's have been confused and thought they could "wait" to decide among the other COB'ing sororities -- needless to say, this creates mass confusion, not to mention hurt feelings on the sorority side.
I only know the SK's from here on GC (which are great by the way), but AZD had a pretty strong hold at our campus -- and of course Pi Phi does have its honorary aunts up for adoption :D -- I really don't think you could go wrong with any of these. Its all about your attitude (obviously GREAT!) and what impact you will make as a sister.
