Hey everyone! After reading the other stories about alumni initiation, I decided to start my own! I didn't get to rush in college-after my first semester I had to come home, due to financial problems, and went to community college. I have a couple of family members who went Greek, as well as my fiance and his whole family! I always regretted not being able to experience this, so I decided to try now! I contacted 2 groups:

Group 1 responded, and have told me to get in touch with the alumni chapter in my area (the only problem is, I can't find the phone number or website!!)

Group 2 has not replied yet (maybe they are busy over the summer?)

I don't know if I should contact any others? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

If you don't have the phone no. or website of your local alumnae chapter, this may not be "publicly available". You may wish to ask the HQ for it. If the HQ will not give it to you, this may be their of discouraging "strangers" from appoaching alumnae chapters and and proposing themselves as a prospective candidate for alumnae initiation. But I would still ask and see if you can get the contact no. for the local alumnae chapter. Ultimately, it is the local alumnae chapter who will decide whether they wish to have you for a sister or not.

Group 2 has not replied yet (maybe they are busy over the summer?)
Hmmmm...give them a few weeks and follow up again.

I don't know if I should contact any others? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
I would wait and see what happens with 1 & 2 first. Also, besides contacting ones that "speak" to you, I would look into who has alumnae chapters in your area. You may absolutely love XYZ sorority, but if their nearest alumnae chapter is 150 miles away from you, this may be difficult to participate in from a logistics standpoint.

You didn't specify which groups you were interested in (and I understand your wanting to be discreet). If you had any further questions, feel free to PM me. :)

I also added you onto the "Roll Call" thread (http://forums.greekchat.com/gcforums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26873)

I'm kidding. It does drive us batty trying to figure out the groups, but I know the waiting is hellish for ya'll! Good luck, and I hope you find your way home!!!!

I would go onto the sorority's HQ website. There should be links from there. In many cases, it might say that there is an alumnae chapter in (for example) Cleveland, Ohio but there might not be a website or contact information posted. This is likely for security, (anyone can go on the Internet and potentially view this) so many sororities are no longer publicly posting the names and email addresses of the alumnae chapters and stuff like that (or it may be password protected & available to initiated members only, so you would need to type in your Membership No#., etc.). You may need to contact HQ and explain that you would like to contact the alumnae chapter in your city, etc.

Thanks so much to everyone for the kind words and support!! You guys are awesome!

I know someone said to turn to family with Greek ties, and here's the situation with that:

Cousin is in a GLO that doesn't do alumnae initiations.
Fiance's mom is a member of Group 2 that I contacted-she is so nice, and I know she would help me.
Fiance's sister in law is a member of a GLO that does AI, but I don't know her that well, we don't ever really talk, and I would feel kind of awkward asking her about it.

One of the girls who is going to be a bridesmaid in my wedding is a member of Group 1, and I know she'll help me.

So far, I'm going to email Group 2 again next week, if I don't here from them this week. I've emailed Group 1 to get the alum chapter in my area info. I'll keep you guys posted!!

I am sure that you can see by the support on GC from ALL Members of All Soros. that No Matter which Greek Ogr. YOU may A I with, The Important Thing is that you do if you so desire!:)

This is no different than when in College on Recruitment Week, you see many and have to decide on only one!

As you can see, there are many Ladies who support you know matter which Soroity you may have the Privilage and it is to associate with as they are all great!

You have the support from the Fraternity Men Also!!!!!

Jenn,
Congrats on your decision to go AI. I am an AI and it is one of the best decisions I made. I hope you find a good home.

I always think it best to look at groups where you know someone already--that helps when making connections. But if it doesn't work out with either of the groups you've contacted, I would also encourage you to use the information here and look at other groups as well. You never know what you may find!

Don't be afraid to pick up the phone either. Call the HQ if you need more information--people are usually more willing to immediately help someone over the phone than through an email.

Best Wishes,
Heather

Hi Jenn!

I just wanted to say welcome to the PNAM club! :)

Firstly, I was wondering what the "RN" in your username means; are you a Registered Nurse?

Secondly, I also wanted to say "way to go" for deciding to pursue alumna initiation!! That's awesome!

Like Jill, you seem to have some great opportunities in front of you. Though I think it's awesome that both your friend and your fiance's mom appear to be willing to help you, you might want to let each one know about the other. In other words, your friend might try and pull some strings to get you invited to an event while your future mother-in-law is doing the same. If you eventually feel drawn more to future M-I-L's sorority, and your friend didn't know you were working with another group, she may be surprised and hurt. So, just make sure that both your friend and your future M-I-L know that you have interest in more than one group. :) At any rate, sounds good so far!!

If you want to PM me to chat about your PNAM adventures, feel free to do so!

PNAM,

.....Kelly :)

Ok whats going on so far:

Group 1: I found out that the alum chapter in my immediate area is inactive, but I spoke with their HQ who put me in touch with an alum chapter 15 minutes away, and I emailed the president of that chapter.

Group 2: still no word. I sent another email to their HQ.

And then, on a wild hair, I contacted 2 more groups!! I don't know why, but here's whats going on with them:

Group 3: out of office until tomorrow.

Group 4: the coordinator of alum service emailed me back and explained the process. She then put me in touch with another alum coordinator who can help me if I don't know any member of Group 4(I don't)-sp I emailed her.

Now I'm hoping to meet with someone from the alum chapter of Group 1 soon! And just waiting to hear back from my emails!!

I contacted the regional person after getting that info from the HQ (new !st choice GLO)...I meet w/ chapter advisor on Friday for lunch....that meeting date took me almost 7 weeks to get -- persistence (sp?)patience has it rewards.:D

Hey guys, you have to help me!! Here's the problem:

Group 1's alum chapter president(from my area) emailed me back and sent me a list of events that are going on this summer that I can come to (yay!! so excited!!) She said she looks forward to having me join her chapter (woo hoo!! even more excited!!)-but here's my problem. I keep trying to download the newsletter, but nothing comes up!! I'm seriously computer illiterate, and it's a PDF file (??) -do you download that differently?? When I try to download it right now, all that comes up is a white page with black blocks on it-no words, no nothing. What am I doing wrong??

Also-I'm going to email her back and try to start coming to events ASAP-do I need to meet with her prior? Or do I just like, show up at the events, like, Hi here I am, PNAM!!

Slightly panicked, but otherwise ok....

Ok, crisis averted-thanks to SisterMadly for her advice about Acrobat!! And to GeekyPenguin for offering her help too!

Anyways, I was able to pull up the newsletter, and there are 2 events I can attend:

1) is at a musuem-movie, you can bring picnics and blankets. my questions: what do i wear to this? would this be a good oppourtunity to meet the alums and get to know them if we're watching a movie?

2) is a baseball game, and you can bring spouses/signifigant others. should i bring my fiance-it's not like he'll know anyone there??

How about a summer dress or maybe a cute top and capris?
I guess you can talk to them before the movie or afterwards? Bring something yummy in your basket to share...you can bond with people over food.

2) is a baseball game, and you can bring spouses/signifigant others. should i bring my fiance-it's not like he'll know anyone there??
Hmmm....I would bring the fiance. He can talk to the guys about sports and you'll have a better time probably too. Also, if people know he's your fiance, then you can talk about when your wedding will be, etc.

I would first see if other people are bringing significant others. When we surveyed our chapter about doing "couple" events, they didn't want to. They consider Gamma Phi to be a "just the girls" thing. I would guess, some men are coming, but you might be surprised.

GPhiBLtColonel

I would suggest wearing capris to the picnic/blanket thing -- easier to be lady-like!;)
And I would not want to bring fiance -- yet -- let the alums get to know YOU first before your fiance is in the picture

Just my two cents!

OK, heres an update:

Group 1: I called the alum chapter president and told her that I would like to try and come to the event on June 27th at the museum. Just waiting for her to call me back.

Group 3: Their alum service coordinator gave me the name and email of the alum chapter president in my area. I emailed her and told her that I was interested in learning more about them and possibly participating in some of their summer events.

That's about it! I'm nervous about meeting Group 1-do you guys think I should see if the president and I could like, go to lunch before the event??

Well, I wrote a long message last night, but it got erased, so now I have to do it again...Grrr....anyways, here goes, and I apologize in advance if it's lengthy!!

Group 1: I talked to the alum chapter pres yesterday, and she is so nice!! She told me alot about the group: appearantly in my area there was one alum group, and then in November, these girls split off from them to form the alum group in Raleigh. All the girls are around my age, either engaged or married-like me! She told me that, unfortunately, alot of people are out of town, so Friday's event might get cancelled-but that there is still the baseball game in July, and also a book club meeting in July, which she invited me to as well. And she encouraged me to bring my fiance to the baseball game-and then offered to carpool with me to both events, so that I'm not wandering in like, who is everyone?? She was really nice, very friendly-and very informative!! She said that if I like all the girls, and vice versa, and I feel like I "fit", then she and I would sit down together and discuss what the sorority is about, the commitment, the bonds, etc-basically stuff I would learn in a pledge period. And if I feel comfortable and ready, then we could proceed with AI!! I am so excited to meet her and the other girls, and start going to their events!!

Group 3-I also talked to the chapter pres yesterday, and she was very nice too! She told me that, since it's summer, most people have crazy schedules and vacations, so they don't have many events-which I would expect. She told me about the group-the age range seems to vary with some girls having just graduated from college, and some people being married with kids. She said that she would keep in touch with me, and let me know when any summer events come up, but said that most of their events are from Sept-May, and then invited me to the September one. So, I look forward to hearing from her, but also am sort of bummed about not being able to get involved now. But like I said, I know it's summer, people go on vacation, and I understand that ut's hard to get people together.

So thats it for now!!

Hey guys! I know it's been a while, but here's an update:
I have an event tonight!! Woo-hoo!! It's with Group 1, and I am so nervous-and so excited! I've been getting Group 1's emails each week: mostly about the summer events and also about community and health issues. Needless to say I am really excited to meet the girls-there are going to be about 6 girls tonight, and some are bringing signifigant others(the president of the chapter encouraged me to bring my fiance along too, so I am). So, I will definately let you guys know how tonight goes!!

Hey everyone!! Well, here's how last night went-first of all, it was hot as hell!! And we were outside too!! So, I met the girls and the president gave me a hug and introduced everyone who was there( we were at a baseball game, did I ever say that?). Anyhoo, all the girls there were really nice and very funny, but I felt like I wasn't being social enough, because they had us sitting in 2 rows, and I was in the row below some of the girls, and so from where I was sitting, I only got to talk to about 4 of the girls. I wasn't really sure what to do-like, should I just get up and go sit by them, or talk to the girls who were near me? But it was fun, and they asked all about me, and why I was looking at ABC. The president was actually telling me that she got about 5 phone calls and emails from their nationals saying that they were doing this AI thing wrong, and she shouldn't have talked to me directly, and this was going to need to take months, and there are forms, etc.. I was like, but nationals told me to get in touch with you (totally freaked out that I messed up somewhere), but she said it was ok, and it was nationals mistake in telling me that. She was really nice and when a bunch of the girls and I were talking about the AI process specific to this one group, one of the girls volunteered to be my sponser (yay!!) and another of the girls , who does alot of work with thier nationals, volunteered to write a rec letter for me, when I was ready!!! Woo-Hoo!!

Then they invited me to a couple of events in August, one is a speaker they are having, and the president of their nationals (who lives here in NC) will be there, and they think I should meet her  . The second event is the opening of their sorority house at the college about 5 minutes from my house (but I think I have to work that day!! What to do??).

So, I am really excited about this whole process and getting to know the girls better, b/c they all seem really sweet. And sorry this was so long!! :D

I wouldn't panic at that comment.

AI has been very uncommon until recently, when it hit a growth spurt. Many people do not even know it exists and those who do are often fuzzy on the details.

It's OK--everyone is on a learning curve with this, and no one is going to hold you responsible for what the org is supposed to know or do.

If anything, your AI pursuit is making them clarify what they're looking for and how they go about things. I think that's pretty good too.

Just a quick update:
earlier on this week, one of the girls that I met at ABC's event a few weeks ago, emailed me to see if I wanted to get together with her! (This is the same girl who volunteered to be my sponser for AI!!) Last night my fiance and I went out with her and her husband for dinner and drinks-we had so much fun! We got to talking about sorority and fraternity handshakes, and her husband was trying to get her to do hers for him, and she was like, no way would I tell you what it is-and then she said to me, but you'll learn it!!

Anyhoo, we had fun, and I'm still getting a few emails that the alum members also get, and can't wait until the next event!

Let me explain: I have gotten 2 invites to 2 events this week from the alum chapter of Group 1-and each time I've had to email the president back and say, sorry I can't come( both events are on a day when I have a 12 hour shift at the hospital 7A-7P)-she was really cool about both, but I feel bad. Then, I got a call from the pres of the alum chapter of my Group 2 inviting me to their next event. I was really excited because I thought it was tomorrow night, but when I called her back, I realized I had gotten mixed up, and it's Sept 17th-so I also had to tell her I can't come (I'll be on my honeymoon out of the country). Of course she was so sweet and understanding about it, and asked me to call her when I get back in town so I can come to their October event. I know both times, each pres was really understanding and I can't exactly change what I have going on both times, but I feel like I'm being a slacker half-ass PNAM!! I feel disappointed in myself, because usually when I set a goal for myself, I do eveything possible to achieve it-and I hate telling people no. I'm scared that both groups will be like-you came to us and wanted this, and now you never come to any events we invite you to. I usually try to fulfill every commitment in my life-and I am commited to becoming an AI-and I hate that I have to keep turning things down!!

I just had to vent, I'm really disapppointed about having to tell everyone no. I don't want them to think I'm not interested/not serious about this/ not committed enough etc!!!

Am I a bad PNAM?

No.

I know you must feel bad about having to turn down two invites to two events with Group #1. But, you're a nurse! You *have* to work those hefty shifts! And really, shouldn't she be giving you a little more advance notice?? If you want to try and make it better, how about you suggest days and times to *her*? How does that sound to you?

As for Group #2 and September 17th...that's your *honeymoon*!! I hardly think that anyone will be mad at you for going to your own honeymoon! :)

I don't see how having valid schedule conflicts makes you a "bad" PNAM. How about this...maybe you can e-mail each of the Presidents and thank them again for their invitations. Tell them how bad you feel about having to miss out. Tell them you are still definitely interested and that you want to try your best to find a date everyone can agree on.

Don't worry Jenn, I'm confident that you'll get it worked out yet! :) :) :)

PNAM hugs,

.....Kelly :)

Jenn, (I also pm'ed you)

No you are not a "bad PMAN". ;) The alum chapter I'm currently pursuing knows that those of us in the workplace/careers etc have obligations. And ditto to what Kelly said, due to your line of work and the 12 hrs shifts give them your schedule for a 2wk period via email and / or follow up w/ a phone call.:)

Keeping my fingers crossed that you can make it to the next events of group 1 and group 2! Its okay to vent and enjoy your Honeymoon next month. :D :)

You are defintiely NOT a slacker. I'm a nurse practitioner and do 12s/24s and a crazy combination of days/nights. Does that make me a bad member? No (and I serve at the International level), it doesn't, but it does make me more considerate of others who work non-traditional schedules (i.e., not 9-5, M-F). You'll have a lot to offer and I would emphasize that when you communicate with the AC presidents. YOu have talents to offer but don't have the flexibility to attend things at the last minute (and for me, anything with less than 6 weeks notice IS last minute). Keep communicating with both groups-- it'll work out!

GOOD LUCK

and for those interested-- it isn't Pi Phi... our president lives in Texas.

Hey guys-
I haven't posted in a while because I have been so busy with the wedding, the honeymoon, work, and settling back into real life!!
Anyhoo, I had gotten the fall newsletter for Group 1's events, and have been unable to attend any of them!! Seriously, September's event was the day I got back into the country( obviously couldn't make that one :D ), October's event I was out of town ( incidentally in the wedding of a member of Group 1's sorority-not from the alum chapter, but an old friend), and for the November event, I could go, but I'm working that night at the hospital so I wouldn't get to sleep beforehand( which come 3 am would not be a good thing)! But I have still been in touch with the president and the one girl who volunteered to be my sponser
( her name is Leigh). Leigh and Iwent for drinks one night- the AC pres was supposed to come but couldn't-

and oops, have to run, will finish later!!

JennRN
11-07-2003, 07:09 PM
Ok, sorry about that!! I had to take a patient for a quick procedure!!

Anyhoo, the AC pres was supposed to come but couldn't make it. But my husband is going out of town for the next 2 weeks :( , so I've invited both Leigh and the AC pres to my house for some margaritas and Sex and the City! And, I cleared my schedule for the December event, which is making Xmas ornaments, so I can go! Finally!

I'm sort of frustrated that things keep coming up that keep me from meeting more of the members and moving the process along-I feel like I'm at a standstill, but at the same time, I know that this process can take years!!

A funny story here-at the wedding I was in a couple of weeks ago, the bride is a member of Group 1 sorority. At her rehearsal dinner, she had all the bridesmaids come up and do a cake pull-I don't know if you know what that is, but basically there's a cake with charms in it, and ribbons on the charms, and you pick a ribbon and pull! Well, we did it , and the charm I pulled was Group 1's symbol!! I was like, OMG, it's a sign!! :D :p (Ok, I'm being cheesy.)

So thats where things are at right now. Sorry there's not more exciting news for you guys!!

Cake pulls are a fun tradition. I did that for the girls that I couldn't ask to be my bridesmaids. That way more people could share in the fun. I made sure to get the sterling silver ones so that they could be worn afterwards.

Anyway, with that reference, I think that I know who your group is. Good luck and I can't wait to find out if my guess is correct!

WHY MUST WE DO THIS???

Jenn obviously doesn't want to name the group yet. Let it go. If you think you know the group, keep it to yourself. I don't understand why, in every AI or rush thread, someone feels the need to play detective.

Jenn will tell us when she is ready.

(FWIW, you can get cake-pull charms for every group. It is no shock that the bride had her org's symbol. Therefore, I really think that you can't narrow it down from this "clue.")

I just spent two hours surfing the net for charms for the charm bracelet I'm getting my daughter for Christmas and there are charms with EVERYTHING. In fact, I wanted a squirrel charm for me but two sites were sold out of them. Must be a lot of AGDs buying squirrel charms!

Just to add... Jenn (and many other PNAMs) might not be so gung-ho about saying names of groups because, as has been discussed before, it's not exactly PC to pursue two groups for AI. So it might not have anything to do with being "ready" or not, and more like "unable at this time"

I dont see anything wrong with people making guesses... it's all in good fun...

You really got clues from my story about the cake pull?? Wow-I didn't know I had left any! Are cake pulls specific to certain sororities??

You guys guessing doesn't bother me-I don't name the name of the group I am looking at mainly because I don't want to offend anyone/ I may not even wind up there/ I like to keep you in suspense( hahahaha!!! :p ).

The 3 of us had dinner and cocktails, and it was alot of fun! I laughed alot and felt really comfortable. The AC pres talked to me about the December event which I will actually make it to-which is making Xmas ornaments, which should be fun. Hey guys!! Well, I had my event today, and it was so much fun!! We were at a bead and jewelry making shop, and we basically got these snowflake shaped ornaments and chose whatever color and shape beads we wanted to put on our ornaments-they had so many different colors and shapes, it was crazy!! And I'm not very artistic anyways, so I was like, oh god lord, where do I even start!! :p But it was fun-there were about 8 girls there, some I knew already, and some I just met today. Everyone was really nice, and we just did our ornaments and talked and had fun! We talked about ideas for events next spring, and I think we're going to go to one of those places where you can paint your own pottery! The AC pres gave me an article about AI that she had and told me she would talk to me soon. I think we're going to try and have an informal dinner with whomever we can get together before Christmas! The event lasted about 3 hours, and I really had a great time.

So, things are going well with my group!

Here's some news for you guys-nothing big, don't get excited :) . Next Thursday I'm going to an impromptou happy hour with the alum group, which I'm really excited about, because there hasn't been an event since December! So, it will be fun to go and meet more of the girls!

But on another note, I sort of need to vent. I've been reading everyone's threads about their AI journey and it seems like , in comparisson, mine is at a crawl! Don't get me wrong, I am so happy for the others when they finally find their homes!! It just seems like, they're are all doing stuff I'm not-let me explain. I know people have filled out applications, sent in resumes, gotten info packets, etc-and I have done none of that. The possibility of AI with my group has only been mentioned in passing about twice. When I go to events, no one asks me about why I'm doing this, what I like about the org, what attracted me to it, what I could bring to the org-or even the AI process with their org. I don't know how anyone feels about the whole AI process, except for about 2 of the girls. I wonder, should I bring it up in conversation? Should I wait for someone else to say something about it? I just don't know. And then I keep reading about everyone getting initiated in the spring '04 class, and I get really discouraged. Like maybe I should look for a home elsewhere. But the thing is, I don't want to go elsewhere! I really like this group-and the girls I've met so far. And please don't think I'm trying to speak badly about them, I'm just discouraged and venting. But I know this can be a long process too.

Anyhoo, I'm sorry this is so long and disparing!!

Jenn,

My personal thought is that if you really like the group and the women stick with it. If it makes you feel any better I have only been to one activity and then the group told me they weren't interested in sponsoring me for AI. Keep your chin up. I completely understand how you feel with everyone getting bids, but there are people who are behind you in the process.

Take care

Sometimes a chapter is really slow to warm up to the idea of AI. I'm really surprised everything has gone as quickly as it has for me - I really wasn't expecting it after reading other AI stories. I'd figured for a much longer process.

Keep your chin up. :) I think things are progressing along all right - sometimes it's just slow with some groups. We're all cheering for you!

Oh, hon, please don't be discouraged. It took me almost 2 years and at times it seemed like I was at a standstill. My Gamma Phi chapter was slow in moving because they had been burned by some women who were so anxious to AI and after they were initiated, they did not participate. They wanted to be absolutely sure of me.

Perhaps your group is the same way. If you loved your group from the start (like I did Gamma Phi), then that is probably where you need to be. Things just move reeeeeaaaallllly slooooowwwwly sometimes.

I actually wondered that myself. But back in the summer, the president of the alum chapter sent out an email about events which included a little bit about me-as in I was interested in learning more about ABC, would be attending some of the events, etc. But I have wondered this as well. But don't you think that it would have been discussed?

Thanks for listening and for the kind words. I was venting at the end of a hard night shift at the hospital and wasn't in the best of moods!

Maybe you were not discussed or cussed!:)

But, if you and they were comfortable with each other then there is a fit!

Now the problems seems to be that maybe they are not aware that your are not a member but looking for AI! How do they feel about AI and do they understand what it really is?

Maybe the next attendence, you single out a few and talk to them explaining who you are, what and why you are doing what you are doing and, what you feel you might be able to do being a AI member.

Ok guys, I have news!!!:D :D
Last night, I went to an informal get-together with some of the girls in the alum group-and it was so much fun! We went to this little wine bar, there were about 8 of us, and there were a couple of girls there that I've never met before, so I got to meet some new people-and see some I already have met. When the girls asked where I went to school, I just put it right out there-my situation, the whole AI process, why I'm there, etc etc-and I was so glad I did! If they didn't know I wasn't alum, they do now! The girls I had already met did know though. And ya'll, I had so much fun getting to know the girls and laughing and having a blast! So, I'm getting ready to leave, and the AC president told me that we're at the point where the alum chapter is ready to sponser me for AI!!!! :D :D And she's going to send in my paperwork to their nationals next week!! And she said don't worry about having a sponser, that all the girls liked me and thought I was a perfect fit!!! OMG, I am so so so excited!! It's like, everything I was worried about totally got taken care of last night. I am just on cloud 9 right now!! Oh, and the president also said that I'll be initiated in the fall ( assuming everything is ok)!! Happy happy!!

It was really fun-we went to a place where you pick out a piece of pottery thats already made, and paint it however you want, and then the place glazes and fires it for you. I am so not artistic, but it was really fun! There were about 8 of us there, and we had champagne ( which really helped our painting, haha :D ), cheese and crackers, fruit tart. The president had contacted whomever she needed to to get my paperwork started, but hadn't heard back from her yet, so I still haven't filled it out yet! But some of the other girls were asking me if I've gotten to start it yet. I had alot of fun, and we have another event this Thursday! So by the time I left, I just wanted to go home, since I had to be back at work today. Hey all-
Hope everyone's summer is going well; I know it's been a while since I posted, but not much has really been going on this summer! My AI group hasn't held any events this summer mainly because everyone's on vacation, etc etc. But today I got an email about this Saturday: at the collegiate group's house near me they are having a BBQ, and from what I understand, sort of a work on the house day. I'd love to go, but what do you guys think-do you think I could do this since I'm not a member? I was going to call the alum chapter pres, and see what she thinks, because I'd love to do it!

Well, I spoke with the alum president today, and she said of course I was welcome (hence the invitation email :p ), so I rsvp'd that I will definately be there! I can't wait to see the collegiate house, and all the girls again!

Hey guys! Well, Saturday was a blast! We went over the the chapter house, and planted a bunch of flowers in the front and back yard, did some maintenance in the yards; we also did some other stuff at the house , but I can't say what because it would give the group away! :p I met some of the collegians, and some of the girls who just became alumni from that chapter, and they are so nice!! I really got along great with one of them....(hee hee :D ). After that we ate a ton of free food ( the best kind!) and just sat around and talked. I had alot of fun, and it was cool to see the chapter house-it's really pretty! I bet the girls have a blast living there. Anyhoo, had a great time with everyone, and I can't wait for the next event!

No news to tell really....I'm sort of in a holding pattern here. My AC president has my application, and the letters of recommendation that I need, but can't find whom to send all the paperwork to. I talked to her about 2 weeks ago, and she said that no one will get back with her on where the paperwork needs to go. :( So as of right now, I'm just waiting. They had hoped to initiate me this fall but that's obviously not going to happen. I am disappointed, but at the same time, I feel like we all get to know each other more, and will make the day I can call these girls my sisters even more special. ( But I really want that day to be soon!!:p ). Anyways, I know that this process is not over-night, and that some of you ladies have waited years and years!! So, I'm trying to be patient and keep positive! But if anything happens, I will surely let you all know.

Hang in there Jenn!

I'm in a similar situation. My paperwork had been sent in a long time ago, and all was thought to be set.

But when nothing happened, it was discovered that there were still more steps to be taken. In this particular sorority, AI is very rare.. so it was understandable that not everyone was familiar with the exact procedure.

Through the help of three amazing women here on GC (you know who you are, and I will thank you publically when I can reveal more!).. and one non-GC woman-- who has moved heaven and earth for me... they were able to get the ball rolling again.

I'm still waiting.. but it is well worth the wait. I've been able to meet some of the women in the Alumnae Chapter, and they've been terrific! They have invited me to all of their activities, even though "the big day" hasn't yet happened for me. I feel so at home with them, and so welcomed.

Whether "it happens, or not" I still plan to contribute any way I can to the amazing work these women do for their philanthropy.

So, please don't get discouraged. I'm only writing this to let you know that what you're going through is not uncommon. Keep the faith! It will be worth all the ups and downs getting there!

Hey guys! Just thought I'd give you guys an update on my group: over the Xmas holidays, I went to a couple of parties with them, and have been doing monthly happy hours when I can. Thats really about it right now-no news on the status of my paperwork, although, I filled it out almost a year ago, and have so many more activities I am involved in now-do you think I could ask the president of our chapter if I could add them onto my paperwork? I'm alot more involved in the community than I was a year ago, and would really like to add them-but don't know if I could ask to have my paperwork back. Anyways, thats really about it. I wish I had more to tell!! :)

However, a big CONGRATULATIONS is needed for our newest AI-blueangel, lake, TCV!!! You go girls!! :D :D

Hi guys! I know I've pretty much dropped off the face of the greekchat earth, but I just wanted to give an update of where my journey is at right now. I'm still waiting for my formal acceptance into the group that I've been pursuing for the past couple of years. The AC that I'm with is really new, and young-when I say young, I mean only having been around for about 3 years. Anyways, I spent a great summer with the girls, and saw them alot. We've just planned our fall events, and we came up with alot of great ideas-I am proud to say that I am getting to coordinate some volunteer work for the group-I can't really go into specifics, or it will give it away! The AC president told me that she's going to be talking with some regional people this week to see what else we can do for a possible AI. Anyways, that's where I'm at right now.

I don't mind that the process is slow-going and long. I have really gotten to know the girls in the group well, and we have alot of fun together. They are all smart, funny, beautiful women that I hope I can one day call my sisters! I really hope it happens, because I really want to get involved with the collegiate chapter near us, and do what I can do strengthen our AC group! The great thing is, the girls are so supportive of me and what I'm trying to accomplish-and that means more to me than I could ever say.

Anyhoo, so that's my update for now! :)

Quick update-my application, and various letters of sponsorship/reccomendation were sent into the group's headquarters last week-so not I just get to wait...with fingers crossed!!

I wanted some ideas from the ladies here though-I would like to get a gift for the AC pres ( for her letter on my behalf), and the other 2 ladies who wrote me rec letters-I don't want to just send thank-you notes, because I feel so touched they would do this for me. Any good ideas on some small gifts to get?

Well, I'm still doing events with my group. At our last happy hour, I gave thank-you notes and gift cards for a day spa, to my sponser, the ac president, and another girl who wrote me a rec letter. The paperwork is at their nationals...and they told me that a few women who need to see my paperwork, are out of town right now...but that everyone else who needs to see it has, and has approved it...so I'm still waiting anxiously with butterflies. I feel like it's moving so quick now, and that soon it will be done...hopefully with news I want to hear, ha ha! :D

Initiation is soon for the collegians near me, and I know my group is making plans for me to initiate with them, if we get the go ahead. I am truly a bundle of emotions right now. I think about this everyday-you guys, I want this so bad. The waiting is killing me, I swear....:D

We have chapters but I'm about 99.9% sure it's not us.

My guess (after a bit of research when I was unemployed) is DG.

She's used AC (or alumnae chapter) in all of her updates........

But then alum "chapters" are often just a generic default.

You guys crack me up! The reason I always said Alumnae Chapter, is because it was just a generic term to describe the group.

However, if I get the news I'm hoping for, I will start droping hints and clues...although I'm not very crafty, and can't hold a secret in, so then again, I might not!!:D

Oh, and I cleaned out my mailbox-sorry!
