Hey Sigma's I'm one of the founders of your newest chapters at Rutgers.. we were chartered in december, and i' like y'all to know that we're doing fine, we just initiated our alpha class, and we're roughly taking over the campus (like all sig delts do thank you very much) y'all can't even imagine how happy being affiliated makes all of us:D. Anyway, i was recently elected as social chair, and since not only are we new here, but the greek life isn't exactly poppin' (i.e. we're bigger then the rest of the greek organizations on campus put together ) And we're also the only organization that's not devine nine so our policies differ enormously from theirs, and because of that, we're not very well recieved by the rest of the greeks. Anyway, on to the question. Does anyone have any suggestions as to A.) how to go about maintaining a good fun atmosphere at a commuter school B.) if any of you are from commuter schools, where do you usually hold your mixers, and C.) any good mixer ideas...(i need to make this upcoming semester rock).. we're in the process of attempting to reviatlize the greek life on our campus, and we need to make people want to be greek...so any help would be MUCH appreciated.....

Congratulations! We're also a newer chapter (Delta Epsilon), so I know where you're coming from. My advice would be to get your name out as much as possible. WEAR YOUR LETTERS! Hold philanthropy events...it doesn't need to be something huge, but it shows that you're giving something back to the community. Get to know fraternity guys...I assume you don't have a house, but invite them out sometime. If they know how awesome you girls are, they'll want to mix.
I spent my senior year of high school at a community college, and I tried to start a community service organization there. It was really difficult! We used to send out mass e-mails through the university, and that seemed to elicit the best response. You know your campus...what will make students come out? Exposure is key.
What kind of clubs are in the area? Build your mixers around those themes. Or make your own! Tropical, country, 20's, etc. are all popular. Have fun, and ask any questions!

Being from a commuter school it is hard to get socail events done at times, but we are lucky to have a great greek communtiy where everyone basically supports everyone else. There are house parties, parties thrown in local clubs/bars, BBQ's in the summer time and if you dont want to do anything like tht, what about a night out for karoke? Or even a night out into NYC, you guys arent that far away..and if you do that, why not meet up with some of your SDT sisters in the city? I know some of the girls from my sister might be intrested in that (but thas something that is more of a night out for the sisters then trying to get other GLO's to do)! These are just a few ideas :)
