Sorry if I'm intruding on your forum, but I saw this badge on EBay and it says "Delta Tau Delta SORORITY"?? However, it doesn't look like the DTD badge I've seen before. Is this one of yours?

Hi Heather,
Feel free to post here anytime.
The badge looked very familiar to me. I was pretty sure I'd seen one before, but couldn't place it.
So, I went to "Sing to the Royal Purple," the official history of Delta Tau Delta, and sure enough, there it was.
This badge is actually a "sister pin," and this design has been used for over a half century. There were some other designs before it.

Well that's pretty cool! So is it a sister's badge in the sense of a brother's biological sister or like a fraternity little sister?

Actually, I'm not sure I've ever seen one used, but I assume it would be a sister sorority member or honorary little sister -- or I think I've heard of them being used for the chapter's sweetheart -- for those that have them.

Heather,
Those are some interesting badges.
The first is a standard Delt badge, obviously.
The second, I suspect is some kind of pinmates badge -- thus the chain. Most Delt badges have no jewels -- except for a few chapter president badges -- but none that I've ever seen like that. When I first looked at it, I thought it might be a Delt badge chained to the badge of the old "Rainbow Fraternity" from the South, with which Delt merged (I don't remember just when, but probably early 1900's). Out of respect for the smaller fraternity, many chapters wore both badges. We still perform a ceremony, usually the night before formal initiation, called The Right of Iris, which is very much like the old Rainbow Ritual. It is now a public ceremony. The Delt Ritual, of course, is not. In reading the description before looking at the picture, I thought it might be a Delt badge with a chapter guard (the Greek Letter for the chapter) which chapter presidents also sometimes wore in my era.
The last is a permutation of the standard badge. In some of the early years of the Fraternity, different chapters used slightly different designs. It appears that all of the symbols are there, just not quite in the same configuration as the "normal" badge.

Hi Heather,
The first one is a pledge pin. Not worth much, really.
I wish there was a way to keep these from being sold, but I just don't know what it is.
No matter how many show up and are bought -- more keep popping up.
Thanks for keeping an eye out.

On that one with the Gamma Phi Beta pin attatched (at least I think that's what it said) I couldn't believe they were asking for over $400.00 for it. I mean I think I only paid $235 for my pin? It's just riping someone off!

I think a Delt badge only cost about $35 back when I was in college. Of course Fred Flintstone manufactured them out of stone in those days.
They really weighed down the front of your shirt.

looking at the above mentioned auction with the g phi b badge, my guess is that whomever the sorority sister was, she was pinned by her delt boyfriend and wore his badge as a guard... i know that at our district conference a few years back, we met the sweetest little old lady volunteering, who wore her husband's sig ep badge as a guard to her adpi badge... he pinned her in college, and because he could not afford an engagement ring, his badge served in its stead. she was the sweetest thing, and her story was so cute... and the badges complimented one another so well... :D ;) anyways... like i said the main reason i posted is b/c i noticed what seemed to be an older, nice badge someone might be interested in... hope i haven't barged in!
