Slight hijack (sorry), but did anyone see last week's Entertainment Weekly (the one with Bart Simpson on the cover)? There was an interview with several emerging young black male actors talking about the dire straits they're in with respect to finding meaty, non-stereotypical roles. The article is called "Brothers in Arms".

EW traditionally comes out on Tuesday, so if you're quick you might still be able to find this copy on the newsstand...

I think Tamara Dobson was Cleopatra Jones. My knowledge of Blaxploitation is horribly limited, being that I was a child in those days and was extremely sheltered.:o :p

That's her!

Well, these movies were before my time. But, during college, my friends and I had a blaxploitation night. We watched Coffy and Shaft. I've seen a couple more since that time.

Richard Roundtree will always be Shaft (sorry, Sam)

thanks for clearing that up for me. I have seen Cleopatra Jones once and I never pay attention to the credits when they list the actors' name.

It's a toss-up: Cuba Gooding, Jr. will always be remembered as Trey Styles to me. However, I am sure that a lot of people will remember him as Rod Tidwell in "Jerry Maguire." SHOW ME THE MONEY!

Rain Man

Ralph Macchio - The Karate Kid OR Eugene "Lightning Boy" Martone (Crossroads); any role with him as a teenager hanging around an old man of another ethnicity.

Joe Seneca - Willie Brown

Giancarlo Esposito - Dean "Big Brother Almighty" - though he has played a number of very different roles that he really cannot be typecasted into one character. BTW, I didn't find him to be very believable as Buggin' Out (Do The Right Thing).

Kimberly Elise - TT (Set it Off) - Though I saw her in John Q and she was GREAT; I didn't even recognize her until I saw the credits and I was floored. Now THAT'S some acting.

Alphonso Ribiero - Carlton or Dr. Maxwell Stanton (In The House), any role with him playing second fiddle to a rapper.

Damon Wayons - any In Living Color role.
