I pay $23 with the massage chair, "quick dry" and wax
(w/o the tip).
What about you?

$25 -- same as you with the chair.
At my old BLACK owned salon in Columbus, there were various types of pedis but the cheapest and one I got was $40. I did not get it often.

$20 for the massage chair and quick dry..
and extra $5 for the parrafin wax.

Mine is also $25. I go to an Asian nail shop to get my pedicure done. Does anyone else notice that it's only the womenwho give the pedicure?

Ya'll need to come to Brooklyn- I pay $12.50 for massage chair, $15 if I get French tips. I have my own bottle of quick dry polish (why pay extra each time I go when I can buy the bottle over and over). When I did pay much more at a spa for a pedicure with my cousin one time they didn't do anything more than my Korean friends.
One day about two years ago the shop was packed and the owners husband wanted to get his wife home - since I was the last one he asked if he could do my pedicure. I was tired and hesitantly agreed. That man worked my feet and massaged my legs to a point where I almost forgot I was at a public shop and not home with my man :p - She wouldn't let me take him home with me and I needed a serious cigarette after that one!!

Okay! I may have to pack my bags for a pedicure. Most establishments charge $40 in my neck of the woods.

In Houston I pay $16 for massage chair, wax, and color. It's $3 more for french manicure. When I was in Louisiana it was $20 and strangly enough at home in Cali where it should be expensive, its only $14, (but that'd with no chair or wax).

Has anyone ever gotten those extensions/tips on their toes??? I saw one girl and I told her her feet looked so nice, and that I wish my feet looked like that and she said that she barely had any toenails, and that she got them to put tips on! Have you ever heard of this?

Yeah, and it's a hott mess. I guess it would even become more of a hott mess to see those nubs sticking out of the sandals.

See that's the thing...they weren't long at all, which makes me wonder how short her toenails actually were! They were really nice looking.

Heard of it?! I've DONE it!!! I broke my big toenail one day a couple of summers ago. I couldn't walk around waiting for it to grow back, so I had a tip put on it. I wouldn't care if one of the little ones broke, it's not as noticeable. But if my big one broke again, I'd do it again, lol.
It depends on where I go. When I was just at home, I would have paid $40, I think, and it was without wax. But it was FREE for me. :D I'm special like that. :) Down here, I think I paid $30 or something like that. I doubt if I can find it any cheaper, everything is so expensive here.

$20 for spa pedicure (complete w/vibrating chair) and manicure, and I tip $5. I go to an Asian place in San Diego that uses OPI, which makes quality polish. The only thing I'm mildly dissatisfied with is that my 'cure chipped after two days, and I had to redo my nails prior to our chapter's deb ball.

So are you actually getting the acrylic put on your toenails or just gluing the tip on?? I'm curious! :D

It was straight acrylic, no tip - I shouldn't have said that in my post. Just like they do sculptured nails? That's how she did my toe. And after my own toe nail grew out, she took the acrylic off for me, so I wouldn't tear my real nail again. :) It's a trip, cuz I remember the day I went and asked her to do it. I thought she would look at me like I was crazy, but she didn't. That's why I didn't trip when I saw it on Queens of Comedy. ;)

I pay $25 for a French Pedicure with vib. chair. I give myself a French Manicure b/c my nails are naturally long and shaped well. In addition, when I get a professional French Manicure-it always chip. So, I use the Sally Hanson French Manicure kit. And my French manicures looks professional!
My grandmother uses the "attached toe nail" during the summer, it looks really nice. She told me that it was the same process as regular nail tips.;)

O.k. You are going to have to explain this to me like I'm 6 years old (a la Denzel in Philladelphia LOL)... The acrylic stuff that I'm familar with is this paste-y liquid-y stuff that they shape on your nail. You had them put that on your bare skin where your nail once was? Weren't you afraid of infections or bacteria getting in or something?
I a big toe nail that is split all the way to the cuticle. My dermatologist said that the only solution is to remove the smallest part of the split, but because of the way it is split that part of the nail will probably never grow back, leaving me with half a nail on my toe (if you can imagine such a thing!) Wonder if the acrylic stuff would work for me? I thought about it, but didn't want it to leak under the split and then make my big toe infected so that it falls off! Inquiring minds want to know!!

2D, where do you go? I know it's somewhere on the wackbank, I mean westbank. :D j/k
Anyway, I stay really close to the village, so I may dip in on one of the nail shops that they have down here. I usually go to The Plaza and it is $26 for the vibe chair and french tips (they charge $3 extra for that  ) I need to find somewhere else because I want the wax. My price doesn't even include that NOR quick dry! I'm just thinking about it!
As for the tips, I know of people who have gotten them and thay didn't get them again. They were cool with the tips until they started to get old. I guess if you are the type like me that wears sandals and/or flip flops all summer, then it's cool. However, I wouldn't stick them in shoes. You know how your finger may hurt when your (finger)nails start to come up and your fingers may get tender, think about some tender a** toes stuffed in shoes! I guess different people have different experiences. I probably would do it if I had some chewed up toes, but mine are OK. Trust me, I have seen toes that have so little nails that it just looks like they don't have any. If that's the case, get the tip!

Im not sure how much a regular pedicure is. I always get the special and they always have it. Its a fill and pedicure in that annoying vibrating chair with quick dry for 30.00. I tip well because Im kinda rude to the Korean lady. I dont like to be massaged or anything. I tell her, I am just here for pretty toes.

Ok, you've never seen sculptured nails done. I will explain this as best I can. The acrylic is NOT directly on your skin, let me say that now. There is this little black thing, that is kind of oval shaped. It has lines on it that criss-cross, like a grid; they are gold. They place that on the skin of your toe, right above the real nail, and they hold it there. Then they apply the acrylic to your toenail and add a little length over the little black thingie. It's hard to explain. Next time you go to the salon, ask them to show you what they use to do sculptured nails. Then you'll see the little black thingie, lol. So no acrylic directly on the skin, no chance for infection.
RedefinedDiva, I feel you. I normally wear sandals all summer, too. That's why I HAD to get the fake nail, lol. But I don't remember if I wore closed toe shoes or not. It probably would hurt some.

On Wednesdays you can get a "combo" manicure and pedicure for $25.00. (polish and if desired....airbrush are free) hand painted designs are extra $$$
But the grande pedicure with the reclining/vibrating chair and the so, so delightful parrafin wax, hot rocks and foot massage is $35. The tip varies between $5 and up depending on the technicians time, patience, work and attitude.

My pedicure cost $13 (includes massage chair)
Of course for elaborate designs they charge extra per toe per design. But I just get 2 designs (one on each big toe which is $2 extra) and the rest are just polished.
My fill-in's are $13 also with $3 for nail design on all my nails ( I get hook ups cuz I've been a loyal customer).
So on average .. including the tip I am spending about $35 every two weeks.

Price has nothing to do with quality - I've been to the expensive salons - I'm not paying $40 so the well-to-do can pay for their Fifth Avenue store's rent. My Koreans on Flatbush Ave do a great job in a clean and hygenic shop for $12.50 and provide the same services.
I'll agree not all shops are the same - but I've found a good one and have been going for the past 10 years - everytime I've strayed I kick myself for wasting money and come right back!

$20-25 for a pedi, $12-15 for a mani, or $30-35 for both together, including the spa chair. A buck extra each for paraffin wax or quick dry topcoat.......$3-5 for a French/American.........
But most of the time I do it myself. I have a foot spa, paraffin wax, all the utensils, polish, EVERYTHING!! I may go once every 6 weeks and then keep it up at home....being a broke college student, you learn how to do stuff!!!

I just had to post a response to this.
Normally I go to an Asian salon to get my nails done. Normally cost me no more than $25, I get the massage chair and my nails look TIGHT. Well, this past weekend, I decided to give my own people a try and visit the black salon. Never again.
First off, my appointment was at 2:30 and I didn't get in a chair until 3:45. Next, they sat me in the back of the salon and had my feet soaking FOREVER. I mean, by the time the girl got to my feet, the water had turned cold. I wanted a french manicure which they charged an extra $10 for. I ended up paying $42 for the pedicure and I didn't get a parafin wax or massage chair.
To top it all off, it hasn't even been a week and my french manicure is already chipping away.  :(
I will be sticking with the Asian's from now on.

Try Bliss Spa in NY. It is on the expensive side but we all deserve to pamper and splurge on ourselves sometimes:)
This is what they have:
foot patrol - facial for your feet. Includes buff, towel-steam, scrub, hot stone therapy (supposed to keep the blood circulating or something) soak, nail clip and file, crème massage, paraffin treatment, and polish... 90 minute treatment. $100
the hot milk and almond pedicure - intensive dry-buffing with a fierce diamond-sided flexible fiberglass callus fighter, whole milk and almond oil steam and scrub. 60 minute treatment. $65
the hot foot - eucalyptus soap salt soak, sweet orange oil softening, and de-scruffing heating sea-salt scrubbing process. Milk and Almond soak... 60 minute treatment. $70

Why is it that we will give other folks a million and one chances when they disappoint us, but when it come to BLACK folks that get one chance and we say stuff like "I'll never go to another black person to do XYZ again." How many of us have gone into a major department store (which, 99 times out of 100 is owned by someone white) and gotten poor service? How many times have we then said I am not going to shop at stores owned by white people again? When THEY mess up it is the doctor or sales clerk or waiter that had a problem. When WE mess up it is black stores this, and black lawyers/doctors that! What a pitiful form of self hatred!! And we wonder why "we" don't have anything.
Did you say anything about the poor performance? Did you let your expectations be known to the owner of the salon? Do you REALLY think that all black folks are alike and that since one person gave you poor service they ALL will give you poor service? Come on now!

I agree with Eclipse!
I have been doing my own pedicures because the last few places that I've been to (Asian), they don't seem to know where my cuticle is. They keep cutting my skin. I also don't like it when they don't understand what I'm saying. If I want to express a concern, I want to the person to be able to respond to it. This was in Philly, so I may try some of the places in the uppity areas around here.

i go to utica golden nails in brooklyn(a little shop on a block of about 3 other nail salons and hair salons). Pedicures are $13, and it's weird~i don't know if this is just in this particular nail salon, but they have this sander...like a belt sander that you see in home depot, and they use it to get dead skin off the bottom of crusty feet! Anyway, their manicures are $5, fill ins are $12, and you get free hand designs on all 10 fingers if you get a fill in or tips. I know it sounds a lil' ghetto, but i do love this place.;)
sahara, what part of philly was this? you might want to try a place called new york nails that's not too far from olney avenue.

O.K., I haven't checked this message board lately and I'm just reading your response.
First of all, whether you are white, black, asian, green or purple, if you mess up, I'M NOT GOING TO DO BUSINESS WITH YOU AGAIN, FLAT OUT. And just because I won't go to a black NAIL salon doesn't mean I have 'self-hatred' for myself. How you made a correlation with that, I don't have a clue.
When it comes to service in the black community, sometimes it's slow. We do a lot of things slow. Not saying that the quality is lacking, but the service most times is. I know that EVERYTIME since the age of 13 when I started getting relaxers, I got to wait damn near 8 hours to get out the salon. Why?? Because OUR PEOPLE have to schedule 6 people at a time every hour. That makes no sense to me, other than trying to get all the money you can - and stylist know that NO black woman can go w/o getting her hair done at least once a month - so we take it and wait.
I get tired of spending my whole Saturday in a hair salon, which is one of the reasons I have decided to go natural. (But that's a whole 'nother topic.)
So before you get up on your 'high horse', don't go around making accusations about self hatred and putting words in my mouth. If the establishment messed up then yes, I'm not going do business with them again, straight up. And if they happen to be black, oh well. If they happento be white, oh well. If they happen to be asian, OH WELL.
And I don't have to let the business know of their poor performance. When I don't show up anymore, they'll get the picture. :D
I love my people and don't EVER question me on that. But in some areas, I feel like we need to get it together, seriously. It's sad, but we have to be real. It's something called TOUGH LOVE.
And I'm out...

Nothing because I do it myself and it's as professional as going to a salon. However, only on special occasions have I gotten a professional pedicure such as for formals (when I don't have enough time to do it myself).

I made that correlation because, as I quoted in my first response, you said "I decided to give my own people a try and visit the black salon. Never again." Not, I'll never go to that shop again, but the inference, based on your sentence structure was that you would never visit a black salon again. Now, if I got the meaning incorrect becaue of your syntax, I appologize. I doubt that was the issue though, because of the little rant that you go on below.

You are right, sometimes hair stylists are slow, some times nail techs are slow, any one can be slow, but we vote with our dollars. I'm not saying you don't have every right to get your nails or hair for that matter, done by whomever you choose, but when you generalize, you sterotype people which is just not cool. I have a relaxer and I REFUSE to spend 5 or 6 hours in a salon like some people will. Ain't NO BODY that good. I'll drop your behind in a hot minute, but I attribute it to the INDIVIDUAL not "OUR PEOPLE" being "slow" as you did. I recently started going to a multicultural salon, although my individual stylist is Black. One thing that I have noticed is that while we do tend to spend a longer amount of time in the salon than our paler sisters, it has more to do with the nature of the style, than the stylist. I typically sit under the dryer for a while, then get my hair blow dried the rest of the way. Then she hot curls my hair. Most of the White women get the wash, blow dry and curl with the brush blow dryer thing. They are in and out a lot faster, but again, I'm not sitting around waiting.

You know what, you are right, you don't have to let people know anything, but I think if we LOVE our people as we both say we do, we OWE it to them to hold them to a higher standard. You can't correct what you don't know. As it was explained to me, LOVE is an action verb. You gotta DO something with it. But, if you are fine with the fact that the black dollar turns over in our community something like 1.5 times while it turns over in the Asian community many, many more times than that, then hey, I'm  too. Actually, I'm not, but I can only do me, and point out where I see inconsistencies. :D
