Do you ladies like Lilly dresses? I bought 6 of the most adorable Lilly dresses for a trip my hubby and I are taking to Puerto Rico next month and when I brought them home he basically told me he thought they were ugly. "Butt-ugly" to be exact. :( I know they're really brightly colored, but I LOVE my Lillies! Anyone else?

I own a Kate Spade for Lilly Pulitzer tote bag:

That is an adorable bag! I think Lilly is a perfect match for AKA's and DZ's what with all the pink and green she uses :)

Some of the Lillys are cool, particularly those little polo shirts. I tend to like my P&G in solids.

I'm not familiar with the desiner. Are there pictures on her website of the dresses you bought? Maybe you could post them here and let us be the judge.

I'd doubt anything you bought would be "butt-ugly" ;)

I love Lily Pulitzer stuff. Maybe men just don't like it because they don't like flowers???

Lily Pulitzer is probably one of my most favorites ever. I just love all that pink!

But from what I have experienced, guys don't like bright colors. Any piece of clothing or outfit a boyfriend has ever picked out for me has been mainly black. It's peculiar

I think Lilly's clothes are wicked cute, but my boyfriend thinks they are too bright..."flourescent", to be exact. Stupid guys--what do they know? I bet you'll look awesome--I wish I could get 6 Lilly dresses!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Amy! :) Here's a link that includes the dresses I bought. They are the "Elsie", "Celia", "Cocktail Dress", "Dani", "Nina" and "Staci" dresses, so you can judge for yourself.

Please pay particular attention to the "Elsie" dress which he said looks like a tablecloth :(

I have to admit, I don't get it either. I like things like this as accessories, (shoes and handbags) but I would never put them all over my body - even if I were a size two.

I like some of Lilly's stuff...pink and green :) I can never find anything that fits very well though!

I think she's an acquired taste. :)

I don't like most of the Lilly stuff, but that's simply because I'm not a fan of colors that bright or large prints, and she uses both in abundance.

I think it might have something to do with where you grew up, too. Here in the Midwest I don't know anybody that's even heard of her, let alone wears the clothes, but most of the East Coasters I know consider Lilly a fashion staple.

Just chalk it up to the fact that most guys will never understand fashion. :p

OMG! Bermuda bags! I was just at The Bay yesterday looking for a new spring purse, and I was totally fiending for a Bermuda bag... the people there just looked at me crosseyed - they'd never heard of them.

I wonder if this store delivers to Canada....

How in the world do you ladies afford these dresses? I can never imagine speding over $100 on a sun dress! But then again, I have only been out of college for less than a year, and I have only been working in the "real world" for 6 months or so. But still, I don't think I would spend that much on a dress, but that's just my opinion!

THERE IS A LILLY PULITZER STORE IN PITTSBURGH NOW.

It's over on Walnut Street - ask Danielle, she was with me when I saw it and freaked out. Sephora and Lilly Pulitzer on the same street...talk about just open up the wallet and say the heck with it. :)

I like her clothes (not that I own any) because of the bright colors...I am sick to death of black and beige.

I like those. Most...not all. I like that Elise. These dresses remind me of something Carrie or Charolette would wear on Sex in the City!

Don't fret! You've got good taste!

KillarneyRose

Hootie: Thank you; I'm glad you like most of them! I like 'em too and if my husband refuses to be seen with me well, then that's HIS problem! :)

Sheila: I can't believe there's a Lilly in Pittsburgh! This is very exciting news for me since there's no sales tax on clothing in Pennsylvania unlike Maryland. It's like a 5% discount so how could I NOT shop there, right??? :D

Jadey: Sweetie, I can afford them because I'm old...so very old. It's one of life's tradeoffs: I no longer look all that great in a pair of short shorts or a 12-inch miniskirt but I can afford Lilly.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!

FINALLY, this is a topic.

Let me say:

Washington and Lee IS Lilly Pulitzer.

Ok, so I'm too poor to afford one, but I can dream!

But basically, everyone wears them all the time. yeah.

I discoved a Lilly Pulitzer store in the Hamptons a few years ago. I thought that the dresses were so cute. The had them in grown women's size beside the little girl's matching dresses. I saw so many mommies and their little girls wearing matching dresses that summer. It was really sweet. :)

That picture on the Photo Album page with the guy wearing a pink tie that matches his dates dress is too funny. I have *never* seen anything like that where I grew up and now where I live, I am sure they might be laughed at if they did that around here, just b/c people wouldn't know what to think. However, I think it is cute and kind of charming. :)

I must say that I did like the idea of the bridesmaids wearing a cute dress like that for a wedding instead of the traditional style dresses! Very sophisticated and colorful. Hmmm, maybe by the time I get married everyone will have money and will want to get dresses like that..................;)

The dresses can be cute, the pants will make any big butt look bigger. I also think that "less is more" with Lilly. I saw a woman at a sailing regatta in Annapolis wearing the pants with the beach patch pattern from last summer with a hot pink t-shirt and a bright green cardigan over top. I think she was wearing some crazy ol' green shoes with them too. yikes.

I have a bag with the turtle design on it...I got it at The Pink Crab (I have issues with that name for some reason) last summer. I definitely need to lose some weight before I could wear any of those prints on my body with confidence though.

Apparently a lot of the DGs at Gettysburg College have Lilly letters...I couldn't imagine cutting up one of those dresses!

I adore Lilly -- they are so Palm Beach! I plan to buy many of her items this year. But remember not to limit yourself just to the fun, flashy dresses. She has some very tasteful polos and capris!!!

Because they are very pink and preppy, kind of old-school and not real sexy, I can understand boys not liking them. But I will wear them anyway!

CutiePie2000

No offense to anyone, but I really don't like most of the prints (especially flourescent colors). Until I figured out what Lilly was, I wondered why people were wearing such weird sundresses. I think some of the toned-down solid colored dresses are very pretty, but I just don't like the look of a day-glo green and neon pink print dress! I don't care if it's in. I wonder how many girls would actually buy clothes in those colors if it weren't for the brand name (and the fact that everyone at a Southern school can tell she's paid $175 for her sundress from 100 yards away).

I was brought up with Lilly stuff, and I have no problem saying that it has become a trend in recent memory. It may represent a Hamptons/Newport/coastal vacation lifestyle, but you can't deny that it's gotten very popular in the past few years, "trendy," even. When a discount retailer is making knock-offs of an item, you can bet that it's trendy...and the preppy look is very popular right now. People have been carrying the LLBean bags with monograms for generations, but they have been all over the place a lot about two years ago among people who otherwise had not been about them--I think that qualifies as a "trend." Same thing with Burberry--when rappers start singing about it, it's a trend. In a few years, the mainstream will get tired of them, demand a new look, and the families who were originally into them to wear to Easthampton and Sag Harbor will continue to wear them. This is what happens.

I think it's trendy, in the sense that lots of girls are wearing it all of a sudden. I don't remember seeing that many Lilly dresses at college a couple years ago, but this year they were common, and people (well, girls) were talking about it.

Lilly is a "trend" in the same way that Lacoste shirts are a trend. They're classic, they've been around forever, but they seem to be popping up everywhere when they might not have been a few years ago among the same college crowd.

If I remember correctly, they mention Lilly Pulitzer in "The Preppy Handbook," in the women's clothing section. If I knew where my copy was I'd find it but I don't so I can't (hehehe). Her stuff is adorable. I too grew up seeing it around, but then again- my town is listed in the "Appropriate Suburbs to Raise a Preppy Family" section of the afore mention book....

I do not like Lilly Pulitzer because I would not look good in most of the colors.

That is not to say that other people look bad. There is just only so much brightness that a pale redhead can get away with ;)

There is a Lilly in Providence Place now. My husband and I were walking into Filene's (aka Foley's for some southerners) and it was right next to it. My husband cringed. Then again, he has relegated himself to navy, grey, green and khaki and has just this month been brave enough to venture into stores other than Gap and Old Navy (the boy actually made a purchase at Banana Republic...baby steps dear, baby steps ;))

Anyway, the point is, wear what you love and love how you feel when you wear it!

I really like Lilly, but I can't bring myself to spend over 150 dollars on a sundress, especially as a college student with law school coming up! However, should I ever win a substantial amount of money, I hope to blow a couple of thousand on nice clothing!

I haven't been there yet. Because I end up spending a lot of money at PP whenever I go, I try to avoid it when I have nothing to spend. Providence never seemed to me to be a very preppy town, but then PP is a rather upscale mall for such an industrial city.

Newport is only minutes away....plus the close proximity to The Vineyard, the Cape, and all the suburban hype of southeast Ma (Mattapoissett, Marion, South Dartmouth, etc.) makes the PPlace Mall quite the hot spot amongst the prep crowd. (Can we say CRATE & BARREL?!)

Yeah, I just graduated from college in Providence (not Providence College). I know what the mall is like, but it is rather incongruous for the city, don't you think? I mean, the East Side is pretty preppy, but that's about it--not even that WASPY. I was an Urban Studies major, and the mall's location was something we discussed ad nauseum.

White with flowers/pattern goes anytime for spring.

Plain white--never unless you're the bride (or the white shoes in question are sneakers or flip-flops).

Or at least that's the gist of what's said in New Times in the Old South (Or Why Scarlett's in Therapy and Tara's Going Condo), the sequel to A Southern Belle Primer (Or Why Princess Margaret Will Never Be a Kappa Kappa Gamma). Gotta love the Marlyn Schwartz.

yeah, i knew that....I left the plain white shoes behind when I outgrew mary janes and formal ceremonies...

these are really cute thongs with kitten heels and a bunch of little leather flowers at the strap....now if they still have them....

I have only one Lilly dress, bought before rush in 2001. I want more, but the closest retailer is in Tulsa, which I don't have time for the drive during the semester.

Do you guys know of anyway to get a hard copy of the catalog without going to a retailer? (Which is weird, since you wouldn't need a catalog if they carry the line.)

I signed up for my catalog through www.inthepinkonline.com which is my retailer. you may still be able to get the catalog through them and you can also order online with them. I'm not sure if they only ship to the New England area though.

I know this thread is old but there was no point in starting a new one.

I've known about LP for a few years but she's not that popular here in Nor Cali. Macy's used to carry her line but stopped about a year or so ago. I really didn't get into her designs until recently. I think her designs are what i like to call "mood wear". I have to be in a certain mood to wear them. Anywho, I'm getting this http://s3.amazonaws.com/inthepink/images/17921/68234.a.zoom_medium.jpg and this http://s3.amazonaws.com/inthepink/images/12390/S08_67255_medium.jpg now that they are on sale:D

She has fragrances now? There's a Lilly shop in San Diego and I hadn't seen them, but now maybe I'll have a tumble.

As for my own Lilly, I have shoes and a few casual pieces. I like her 50th anniversary Jubilee collection and have lost enough weight that I could maybe consider any silk jersey pieces.

At Tuesday Morning I bought a duvet cover, dust ruffle and pillow shams for 75% off. I think they were last year's pattern but who cares. What a deal!!

Yes, they are new! I haven't smelled them yet, but there's a new Lilly shop in NYC and I should go to get some gifts for niece-Munch and sister-Munch.

I decorated my bedroom last year with Ocean Drive--got it at a closeout store and I love it! I've been collecting more pillows, so my bed is just the way I like it.

Also, Lilly is very easy to score at TJMaxx; sometimes Filene's Basement too.

I just got an amazing pink and white stripped lilly dress at the Saks outlet Off Fifth, its adorable and was a steal so that store may be worth checking out too

I haven't been Marshall's in years but the one day (yesterday) I decided to cruise through there, they had Lilly shoes. And the ONLY reason I saw them from across the store was because of the box. With the green handle. :D I didn't buy them but now that I know they carry Lilly, I'll check more often.

Apparently, Lilly is offering letter shirts for certain sororities:

http://www.lillypulitzer.com/SororiTEE/icat/sororitee

Perhaps they'll expand to other organizations depending on the demand?!

Just thought I'd pass it along since I know recruitment season is upon us! :D

I wonder why? I wonder if our/my organization just has stricter guidelines or what the deal is? There are many things that I see, that other organizations have and that are in good taste, but isn't offered for my organization. One example was those beautiful Christopher Radko sorority ornaments from a few years back. I'm sure the National Organization has their reasons, and I'm sure they are what's best - so I won't argue, but it would be interesting to know how they go about deciding what to lend their name to and such.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that perhaps this one will get through!

I don't think our Nationals are the problem. Why make something that you can only market to 20,000* women, when you can make something you can market to 250,000* women? (*These numbers came out of my ass, I have no idea what "official" counts look like right now) Plus, certain NPCs are ALWAYS going to be seen by certain parts of the country (where Lilly, et al are marketed) as more prestigious than others, and those are the ones that are going to have their letters made.

A Zeta sister posted this link on my FB. Le Sportsac & Lilly are going to be working together to make a handbag line for 2010!

This totally makes sense; I never realized that some NPC groups get the shaft in terms of product licensing. I've always been able to get the AXO products that I've originally seen made for other sororities. I guess this also explains why Mattel manufactured AKA and DST dolls to celebrate the groups' Centennial Anniversaries. The demand was more concentrated among those two groups than for the 26 NPC groups! :)

Don't fret if your org is not on the Lilly site right now! Lilly is just beginning to offer us all something greek.

Pretty soon Lilly will offer an option to create your own sorority T.

Sounds like fun to me.

Yeah - it's Lilly - but I get notices when their stuff starts to go on clearance AND when Saks has 50% off clearance. I've scored a $300 Lilly dress for $30 and the Palm Beach fit highwaters/capris for $15.

Meanwhile, why does the model in the Carly dress have her leg up? That's kinda not-Lilly like.

I have gotten fantastic deals on Lilly at Dillards. I have hit it when it was 70% off then take an extra 40% off. Got my daighter a cute white dress she used for initiation. It was orginally about 300, I got it for around 40. Got several bathing suits for less then 20, think they had been around 150-175. DD loves Lilly but I just will not pay the full price. She has a bunch but I always buy it on sale. She may have to wait a while to wear it, but the good thing about Lilly is it doesn't go out of style.

Dillards does have good really good deals for Lilly and sometime even Marshalls will have dresses but those get snatched up very quickly. And about the sorority shirts- if they don't have the shirt for your chapter you can always buy Lilly Fabric on Ebay and have a place make a shirt with it for you!
