So today its like Aug 26 and there is still like a week and a half until recruitment starts, and 2 weeks until bid day!! My school started recruitment a lot later this year in order to make sure the ladies were sure recruitment was for them. I am so anxious! Is there anyone else still awaiting recruitment?

I'm still waiting--rush doesn't start until late September at URI! I have a really good feeling about it. I'm so excited, and I just know these weeks are gonna drag by so slowly! I was talking with a girl who came into my work the other day about her sorority and she really encouraged me to rush, plus I've been following all the rush threads on GC...so I'm all pumped up! :p
BEST OF LUCK to everyone else rushing, and CONGRATS to all the new sorority members!!

Just think how difficult it is for the schools that recruit in January! The school I advised had "Spring" Rush and the poor pnms had to trudge around campus in middle of January in big heavy coats and boots worn over their cute rush outfits. Poor girls.
Anyway, good luck with recruitment, it will be here faster than you think!

Hey Valley Girl,
I see that you are from Bakersfield. Are you at CSU Bakersfield by any chance? If so I hope you'll really consider Phi Sigma Sigma. All my sisters of Epsilon Epsilon Chapter are the best.
Division Conference was held at CSU Bakersfield in March. I drove up the night before and decided to eat a hotdog from one of the all night stores near CSUB. Let me just say that I discovered what true sisterhood meant when sisters I didn't even know called me to see how I was doing after ending up at the hospital with food poisoning.
I think with all the sisters of the division calling my house to say they hoped I felt better, did I need anything, etc. brought home to my parents all that I had tried to tell them about sorority life but they couldn't understand.
Well good luck in recruitment and I'm sure most of us GCrs can't wait to see who you decide to bid.

We have recruitment in February and it is just killing me to wait that long! Thank goodness we can do COB this fall and at least have the excitement of some new KD ladies!

I'm still waiting, although it's getting closer and closer. This Thursday is our Orientation meeting, and then the first round starts on Monday. When I first found out about rush, I thought the second week of school was really early to start, but it turns out that it feels like it's taking forever!

Old Dominion University recruitment starts on Thursday, September 5th, and ends on Sunday, September 8th. We already have 42 women signed up. We expect more to sign up as we get closer to Thursday. We have five sororites on campus:
Alpha Phi
Alpha Xi Delta
Delta Zeta
Pi Beta Phi
Zeta Tau Alpha
I can let you know my side from a Rho Chi (yes we are still called that.) But maybe there are some other GLO or PNM on here!

Wow, for selfish reasons I'm so glad that rush is at different times at different schools. That means I'll have rush threads to read through October and then again in January!

For all you pnms waiting and waiting, just think of all the great information you have been able to get from reading the recruitment threads of the other girls on this board who are going through or have just completed their recruitments! You are learning so much from their experiences.
I have to say I have been so impressed with all of the pnms that have posted and encourage those still waiting to post as well. I've laughed and cried with all of your experiences and wish all of you the best!

Only a few weeks left!! I moved into my dorm yesterday, and I met my suitemate..she's an AXiD and is just the sweetest! I talked to her a lot about rush and she was really encouraging. She said there were sophomores in her pledge class, so I'm not too worried about that. Anyways, just wanted to update! I can't wait to rush and of course to make a rush thread! ;)

At Northwest Missouri State University we start recruitment parties tomorrow (well I guess it's technically now today :))! I'm so excited! Today was the last day to sign up and Recruitment Tea. Yesterday there were about 210 signed up, and someone said today even more did at the last minute and we're up to around 230. We have 5 NPC sororites on campus, and Sigma Alpha is participating in formal recruitment for the first time. We're all kind of wondering how quota will work out since Sigma Alpha has to keep a 70% Ag major ratio...have any of you guys had Sigma Alpha participate in Panhellenic recruitment before? Other big changes here are that we're switching to no frills this year, and rush infractions are much stricter (they'll knock girls out of your quota...not kidding!). My good friend that's on Panhellenic Exec. is ready to pull her hair out because of all the changes! This will be my first time on "the other side" so it's going to be interesting!

I thought panhellenic rules state that quota shall not be lowered as a penalty for an infraction. Do campuses really still do this?
Just curious...

I thought the same thing, AXO_MOM, and we are both right! Whoo hoo, go us. :)
From the College Panhellenics Agreement:
7. Inappropriate Penalties
a. It is strongly recommended that penalties other than monetary be assessed. If fines are utilized for specified violations, such as late invitation lists, the fine should not exceed a previously determined amount established by vote of the Panhellenic Council.
b. It is a violation of the NPC UNANIMOUS AGREEMENTS for a College Panhellenic to lower a chapter's pledge quota as a rushing infraction penalty.
c. Delaying pledging or initiation infringes on the sovereignty of individual fraternities and may not be used as a rushing penalty.

Pick up schedule
Round 3 (prefs)
PNMs fill out Preference cards
Sunday, Sept. 29:
Bids go out at 5 pm!!!
Since rounds 1 and 2 are spread out over a few days, that means I'm gonna have to pick out a whole bunch of outfits! I do go to school in the northeast, but I hear that rush at my school is more competitive than what's normal for this part of the country. So I know that I'll at least be staying away from the jeans, but I don't want to get too dressed up and look like I'm trying too hard! So far the only outfit I've decided on is a knee-length denim pencil skirt, a brown leather fringe-y belt (this came with the skirt), a cream-colored top that's kind of ruffly with cap sleeves, and brown shoes with a low heel. I didn't really describe that too well, but does it sound okay to all of you?
Only 3 weeks and 1 day left!!

Your outfit sounds cute! Just wear what you're comfortable and feel good in. And be yourself...let your personality shine through and you'll be just fine. What school are you at and what organizations are on your campus?

Melissa- If you are going to URI, friends of mine from RI say that Rush is pretty competitive there, but they have really great chapters and an awesome greek life. Goodluck!:)

A little update on the situation at Northwest Missouri State...
I wasn't the only person who thought taking girls out of the pledge classes was fishy, and someone from another sorority found the exact rules that you posted. Panhell then said, "Yeah we knew we could never take girls out of your pledge class, we were just saying that to scare you all so hopefully there wouldn't be as many recruitment infractions." It makes me so mad that they flat out lied to us! grr! They even had it laid out how many girls they were going to take for certain infractions! I guess I do see their point in trying to scare us so people would be more careful, but I still don't like the dishonesty.
Also, the guesstimate of girls signed up on the last night was 230....actual number that signed though was.....
273!
It's one of the bigger recruitments we've had in a while, last year there were around 210 signed up on the first day and quota was 28 (if I rmember correctly). Yesterday was our first day of parties and my first time on the other side. I was completely exhausted! I'm a natural conversationalist so I thought it would be easy...not so much! Remembering names is SO hard! I can't even imagine what you girls at big schools feel like! They say as the week progresses every day gets eaiser and better...I hope so!

MelissaS,
There are great houses on the URI campus, I'm very certain you are going to have a good recruitment there.
September 21st will be here faster than you can imagine, I promise.
nwsigkap,
Ugh, being lied to even for a "good cause" is such an awful feeling. It just breeds resentment. I'm sure you will all rise above it, and thank goodness you won't make the same mistake when its your turn for a similar leadership postition.
Good luck!
:)

Hey Tink,
Was your recruitment last week or does it begin this week. I don't recall seeing a thread about your recruitment. Hope all has gone or is going well.

Hey Melissa,
This next week is going to fly by for you and it will be rush before you know it. I'm going to give a shameless plug here for my favorite sorority - GF GRSSK. Read the message I left for ValleyGirl earlier in this thread about how great my Phi Sig Sisters were when I got food poisoning the night before division conference.
We are the only NPC at CSUDH so we don't do formal rush. But our Campus Welcome Week is this week where all the clubs and greeks have booths up. Then the 17th and 18th is our recruitment parties with Pref on the 20th and bid day on the 21st. I can imagine as a sister if I'm getting excited how it must be for you going through rush.
I hope you'll really consider Phi Sig as one of your top choices if not the top. No matter what have fun and follow your heart.
