You guys have all been begging for more rush stories to read, so I figured i'd share mine with you as it unfolds.
I will be rushing at the University of Tennessee. It starts in 2 days. (Saturday the 17th) I am getting very excited. We have 14 NPC sororities at UT so there will be a lot to choose from.

Hi Brookie,

The most important thing is to have fun and find a place that you feel comfortable in. We all find our "favorites", and sometimes they will cut you, but in the end, the right place for you will definitely stand out of the crowd.

Now only 1 1/2 days left till recruitment begins!!

I am even more excited than I was 5 minutes ago. I am still in a frenzy making last minute decisions on what to wear and things like that. I got my hair trimmed and my eyebrows waxed today. Tommorrow is my day for a manicure. After all, I don't want to meet my future sisters looking all yucky.

Thank you all for all of your well wishes. I appreciate all of the encouragement. I hope to be posting on here in a couple of weeks as a proud new member of a very special sorority. I truly do have an open mind going into this so I hope all will go well.

Bring comfortable shoes to wear between parties if you have long walks to make.... don't wear a watch.... don't wear perfume. I'm sure you've read the GC advice already though!

I went to the first day of sorority recruitment at the University of Tennessee yesterday. The day consisted of an orientation and then open house. During open house we were able to visit all 14 NPC sororities on the campus for 10 minutes each. I met my Gamma Chi and she was wonderful! I loved the women from all sororities I met, however out of the 14 there were 9 I liked better than others and 2 out of that 9 that I liked most of all. This however was just from a first impression, so my views may change as the week goes on. There were some very nice girls in my Gamma Chi group and I really enjoyed talking with them. Overall, the first day was wonderful. It was less stressful than I expected, but more tiring.

Now, here in a couple of hours I will go back and see how many invitations I get back for round 1. We can accept up to 10. Round 1 is on Monday and Tuesday, and of course I am very excited. I will keep you posted later this evening.

Hey guys, I just got back from finding out who invited me back to round 1. I am very excited to say that I got invites back from:

I would be excited to be a member of any of these groups and I can't wait to find out more about them as the week goes on!
Seriously, I am giddy!!!

Round one is tommorrow and tuesday and then wednesday I get invites back again!!

I noticed that I had good luck wishes from girls in some of these groups, hope i've made you proud.

Let me know any more advice you have for me for round one(philanthropy).

YAY! You're going back to Pi Phi! Woo hoo! You definitely have made me proud. I just got a rush update from another alum, and I know the chapter has great things planned for the week. You're going to love it. Heck yes, I'm biased! :D But in fairness, I'll repeat that you should keep your options open. Look around at the actives in every chapter and ask yourself if you feel like you would fit in there. Do you feel comfortable there, or are you having to put up a front? You can fake it for a week, but not for four years. When you feel at home, you've found your place.

I would also like to join in and agree with Silverblue! You've made me very proud as well. :) I may be biased, but I also agree with the others that it's too early to make any decisions just yet. It is so important to feel comfortable in the house you choose. When I went through rush I imagined myself lounging around the house in my fluffy slippers. If I couldn't see myself doing this (and therefore meaning that I would be changing myself) then I knew I wouldn't feel comfortable there. Now go find that place where you can wear your slippers! LOL :D

PS. What houses do you go to on each of the two days of round one?

Another question for all of you...Did any of you change your mind a lot from the first time you met a certain chapter to what you thought about them by the end of the recruitment week? Or, were your first impressions pretty much right on? Just Wondering.

I felt at home at Pi Phi from the minute I walked into the suite during open house. My top two favorites from open house were the two chapters I preffed (we could go to only two then, but I think it's three now). However, I'm not sure that my experience was typical. I rushed as a junior, so maybe I just had a better idea by then of what I was looking for, and knew it when I saw it.

Silverblue, I love hearing positive things about my sisters in other chapters!

As for impressions changing during rush, I changed my mind about one group. Although I didn't end up there, by the end of rush I knew that they were very nice group who I wouldn't have minded calling my sisters. Going in I hated them, they had the worst rep and it was totaly un deserved. I think it's ok to change your mind as many times as it takes till you are 110% sure of what is right for you.

Aww! I wish I were at UT! 3 of my SAI sisters are in AZD chapter! In addition to the old roomie who's in ZTA! And I met a friend last year (someone my roomies went to h.s. with) who is in SK! They and the other chapters are wonderful - I just know those three the best! Keep having fun! :D

On philanthropy day, I would try to find out what the national and local philanthropies are (some groups have a local one in addition to national...). Try to find out how often they actually do service projects and what kinds of things they do (i.e.: Halloween party for kids at school for the deaf, fun runs, etc.). Also, try to get to know the girls you talk to and just make a friend! Find out what kinds of fun things they do like formals, sisterhood events, etc. Maybe ask what the new member program is like. You don't have to talk about anything too serious on that day. Just try to find out more about the girls and their chapter, what sets them apart. It will help you get a feel for the different chapters.

How exciting for you! Remember to just have fun! This is an awesome time that you will never forget, no matter where you end up :)

Each day you could be meeting different sisters that can account for different impressions. Just keep your mind open and by the end of rush I am sure it will all become clearer to you. As for changing your mind, I did it about a million times before I made my final decision! Everytime I went to a party, there was something wonderful about it. But, when I walked into AZD pref, I knew I was home.

My thoughts on the different houses changed once I started rush. Before going into rush I definitely wanted to go Pi Phi, and I actually only rushed to join them. However, once rush started I fell in love with another house and changed my mind for part of the week. But as you can see I changed my mind back. :D

Hi Everyone, It's Me!

Today I went to 3 parties for round 1 (philanthropy) and tommorrow I go to 2 more for round 1 cont. The 3 I went to today were DZ, AZD, and ZTA. I had a wonderful time once again and was very excited to hear about all the wonderful community service each chapter was involved in. I think they are all wonderful causes. During the day today I felt like I had a connection with 2 of the 3 chapter a little more than the other one, but I am not ruling anyone out yet. I am of course very excited about my other 2 parties tommorrow and can't wait to get a second impression from Sig Kap and Pi Phi.

I want you all to know I am truly enjoying rush regardless of what happens in the end. I have had a wonderful time and met some really fun people. I am really glad I decided to participate and have really been myself in all of the parties, so no matter what happens I am already excited. But for now, I must enjoy myself and countdown the days till BID DAY!!!

I just got home from the second day of round 1. I had a wonderful time and visited Pi Phi and Sig Kap. I had a great time at both. I am not sure if I have a favorite between the 2 because they were both so great! So what this means is from Round 1 I visited 5 chapters and liked 4 of them a lot. Now we go back tommorrow to find out which ones invited us back. I am very excited, but nervous because I got cut pretty hard after open house.

We also had our Gamma Chi group pictures made today. That was fun. We had one serios pose and one crazy one with props like air guitars, glitter wigs, and crowns.

Recruitment is going very well for me and I really hope to get some invites back to round 2 becuase there are deinitely some groups I believe I could fit into and could be an awesome sister in.

Seriously wish me luck!!! I'll let you guys know tommorrow night.

Keep in mind that if you keep getting invited back to one or two even after getting cut heavily that they see something in you that someone else didn't. As it gets into the later rounds be sure to tell your favorites how much you enjoy being there (without being pushy ;) ), that way they will know that you would probably accept a bid. Remember it's as much about numbers to them as it is to you :)

I just wanted to let you know that last week I went through rush and definitely got cut most heavily at the beginning. As the rounds went on, I got cut less and less. I even got my three top choices for Prefs. As long as chapters that you like keep inviting you back, you're probably doing really great. It's hard to remember at the time (believe me I know) but these chapters didn't just not cut you - they ASKED you back. They wanted to see you just like you wanted to see them.

It's me again!!!

I found out who invited me back for round 2 (Skit/Entertainment) today. I am very proud to say that I was invited back to:

Alpha Xi Delta
Pi Beta Phi
Sigma Kappa

I was a little bummed because I didn't get invited back to Zeta or DZ because they were awesome too, but I know that I will end up where I belong and I know that I can be friends with girls from these groups even if i'm not their sister.

The three who invited me back have been some of my favorites all along, especially one of them. I am so excited to see them again!!

I really hope things work out well in the next round for me, because I am really excited about it.

The next round of parties takes place tommorrow night and Friday. I don't have my schedule yet, but I might have paries both nights or maybe just one night.
Then, looking ahead....Saturday night is preference and Sunday is Bid Day!!!!!!!!

I hope all you Sig Kaps, Pi Phis, and AZDs are even pruder as I am one step closer to being your sis. And I hope all the rest of you will keep encouraging me, too.

Classes began today here and that went pretty well just in case you are interested. Hope this week is going well for all of you, too.

Sorry I haven't written in a few days, but I am now a proud member of a sorority. I'll tell which one in a couple of posts.

But to catch up....On skit night I went to AZD, SK, and PiPhi. I had a great time and all the skits were very good. I wore a purple sleeveless shirt and a pretty purple and pink knee length skirt. Then on yesterday morning (Saturday) we found out who invited us back for preference. Does anyone want to know who?????

Well......I found out on Saturday morning that I had been invited back to pref parties for AZD and PiPhi. I was of course very excited and I already knew what I was going to wear. I wore a black dress that is kinda low cut and and comes to right above the knee. It has ties at the shoulders. I wore silver jewelry with pink accents.

So I went to pref night and went to Pi Phi first and the room was gorgous. I was decorated like heaven because their thing wsa angels and arrows. We had angel food cake and chocolate covered strawberries. The ceremony was very touching and I teared up.
Next I went to AZD and they had pink roses everywhere. There ceremony was also great, but not as touching until I talked more to the girl who was rushing me and we both cried a lot as we talked about how I could see myself there.

As pref night came to a close I had to rank these groups and I realized that I could be happy in either one. Both groups of girls were great!!!!! But, something in my heart kept telling me to put AZD #1 and I did.

So, then today was bid day and I found out what sorority I am in!!!!!

So, who was it??

So....now's the time....I will tell you what sorority I am a new member of............

I am a proud new member of................Alpha Xi Delta !!!!!!!

We had a wonderful bid day and went to an alum's house for a picnic/karoke, but it got stormed on and cut a little short.

But, regardless I had a wonderful time and am so happy.

P.S. Another girl from my Gamma Chi is a new AZD, too.

And I found out today, that my Gamma Chi is an AOPi.

Hope you all are happy for me!!!
