I have good news, we getting our charter this month!

The bad news is that along with that I have to step down from my social chair position of a year and a half :( , because we are re-electing. We are having nominations tomorrow.

I have the knack of getting people to come to events and joining organizations, and I want to use that strength for a position in my chapter. What would best suit me? VP membership? Rush chair? Publicity?

My advisor won't give me any specifics.

APO is trying to get organized at my school (Georgia State) as well.

Well if you have those kinds of skills, I would think VP of Membership would suit you pretty well. Since I'm a Sig and not a brother, that's just my thought.

What is the specific description of VP membership?
All I know is well..it has to do with membership.

I can only describe what the duties are for my sorority, but what our MVP's do is coordinate all the membership activities for the chapter (Rush) and for the chapter. She also serves as the pledge dean for the new pledge line that comes into the chapter.

The MVP also tries to come up with activities for the chapter to foster sisterhood.

The Membership VP supervises four aspects of membership, unless your Petitioning Group has decided to break up the responsibilities:

1. Recruitment/Rush
2. Pledge Education
3. Fellowship
4. Retention

A detailed description of responsibilities is available on APO.org, under publications, then documents. "Membership VP" is under the chapter documents.

Unfortunately, I didn't get the position I wanted.
But, the good news is that as of last night we became the 362nd active chapter of APO. We got our charter! The ritual was SO beautiful, I'll never forget it! :)

One of my friends was in the frat at Um a bit back.. he aid they didn't have a house... that it was a social frat but he said that he loved it there and that many of his close friends in university were made there. He's 24 or 25 now so he would;ve graduated a few years ago i think.. wonder if you know him.. PM me

Over here at MVSU the APO are still trying to get a chapter and they are still getting the run around. Why is that so? They have been trying for the longest to. What steps do they have to take. They have well over enough members. Unlike us, we are still trying to get chartered and we need 10 members to do that and I think that we will be chartered this Fall. Help me out so that I can help them out.

Having enough numbers is the biggest challenge. But, if that chapter's numbers are alright and they are still getting no where it is probably because of apathy, laziness, or internal conflict. Sounds familiar? We've been there and done that.

Well, I just took a quick look on the National Website, and I saw some "possible" problems:

Have the students contacted Alpha Phi Omega's headquarters? That is the first step. APO has to KNOW that there is interest so that they can line up the volunteers necessary to help. This is VERY important because there are NO active APO chapters in Mississippi. Therefore, APO needs to find people who are willing to travel to help the students.

I am completely confused as to what chapter Dionysus attends. He said chapter 362 which is Omicron Beta at Marietta College which is inactive and none of the extension efforts this year that have come to fruition have been at schools called UM (the only one we lost that might fit into that is University of Montana @ Billings)

As Rashid said, The story behind the founding is the place to start.
The founders included 8 brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, 5 brothers of Crescents (a local at Lafayette, which became a chapter of Kappa Delta Rho a couple of years later) and one independent. I don't believe Lafayette had enough Negros (non-modern term used deliberately) to make the creation of Omega Psi Phi there reasonable...

As for why the Historically Black chapters of Alpha Phi Omega use the term "Ay Phi Que" and whether that relates to any
membership by brothers of Omega Psi Phi, I don't know, however, it certainly would not have occured until well after the founding of the Fraternity, We were founded in 1925 and the first chapter at a historically black school was at Johnson C. Smith University (then college) in 1947.

Not true Nationally, but I do know of one chapter, Psi Phi @ Tennessee State, where the majority of the chapter founders at the school were also members of Omega.

Alpha Phi Omega was not founded by any fraternity. Rather our founders were members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. However Alpha Phi Omega has no affilitation whatsoever with SAE.

Like, all but one of the founders was members of SAE.
