Hey-
I just picked up my first set of letters and I can't wait for the sun to go down so I can wear them (it's kinda hot right now). My big bro is studying abroad right now, so I didn't get letters at initiation. I ordered them 2 weeks ago and had to wait extra long because they ran out of the print I wanted. Anyway, I'm stoked!!

On that note, what did everyone first set of letters look like? Mine were plaid letters with a burgandy outline on a cream t-shirt.

Mine were the red pledge T-Shirt with white screen print letters, oh so attractive.
My first sewn on were a red sweatshirt with gray on white letters (aka the "Phi Sigma Kappa groupie" sweatshirts).

My big sister gave me my first set of letter at initiation. It was our chapter standard at the time, grey sweatshirt with purple and white letters. I think the first that I ever bought were pink on blue letters on a white tank. I gave the same tank style to my little when she was initiated.

My first sweatshirt is now about 8 years old......and I still wear it. (Its not the prettiest thing, but its worth a million bucks to me) It is a gray sweatshirt with the basic blue and green plaid style letters. I promised myself when I was initiated that I'd be buried in that sweatshirt, and when I write my Will, that will be in there.

My local had a tradition of giving identical lettered T-shirts to each pledge class when they were initiated. Our colors were green and purple, so my pledge class's shirts were green letters, white background, on purple shirts - the previous pledge class (the founders) had purple letters, white background, on green shirts.
My first AEPhi letters... I'd had a black sweatshirt made up with my local's letters. When we affiliated with AEPhi, I took the sweatshirt back to the store and asked them if they could change the letters, and they did! Floral print, white background. They were actually ready before our initiation, so I was able to wear them immediately afterwards. :)
josh8o, wear your new letters with pride! :)

First of all, congrats to you Josh! Secondly, my first pair of letters I recieved are in the colors of my "family tree" (big bro, grand big, great-grand big, and so on): grey shirt, black letters with red outline.

My chapter does something very much like aephi's local did. Each class get its own special pattern. All of the tshirts are white but then the new member educator will go out and pick out a print for the shirts right before activation. My first letters were a yellow, blue, and green sort of plaid on a blue background sewn on the white tshirt.
Congrats Josh on receiving your first pair of letters. It's really an awesome experience!!!!!

After my class was initiated, we got our class letters which are a dark blue shirt with light blue letters and silver border. Then on top of that my Diamond Sis gave me 5 more sets of letters one for everyday of the week.
They were:
1. Leopard Print with my name and her name embroidered on it and it said Diamond Sis 4 Life
2. A black sweatshirt with purple letters and my name embroidered on the sleeve
3. Zebra Print letters with my name embroidered on it
4. Letters with a star print because I'm in the star family =)
and
5. UNLV's school colors. A Black shirt with dark red letters and a grayish silverish background with black stitching and UNLV embroidered under the II and my name over the A
I wear them all the time, since then I've gotten more letters, but these 5 shirts especially are my fave! :)

My first letters came on Bid Day August 22, 1998! When I walked through the door the sisters all cheered and handed me a Bid Day shirt and goody bag. My shirt was a sherbert yellow/orange color with a firery sun on the back with a logo that read "Everyone Has Their Day In The Sun. Some Just Last Longer Than Others." It is TOTALLY AWESOME  (and the sun was wearing sunglasses just like that smiley!
I still have the shirt although I hardly wear it as it's been washed so many times and it's an XLarge and rather LARGE on me! But still a great set of first letters!

My first set of letters was given to me on initiation night by my big sis, they were a white tee-shirt with blue flowed fabric and blue background sewn on. This set of letters has been passed down through four "generations" of my family tree, and I passed them down to my little when she got initiated.

My first set of letters is a black sweatshirt with black, green and red plaid on white. My "family" tradition is getting plaid letters from our big sis! My big sis and I are going after spring break to get matching letters at the Purdue bookstore! :)

My first set were hand me downs too. As far as I know they could go as far back as the first person in my line (my family is kinda young) they were columbia blue with blue and green plaid and cream background. I gave them to my little and she gave them to her little, who transferred to UofM and will pass them on there!

does every other GLO wear letters? We don't, as a rule. We'll make an exception for sports where it's necessary to see who's on what team, but otherwise we don't mark ourselves in public. We think it's enough that we know who we are, we don't want to force ourselves on other people.

First set of letters--white sewn onto a light blue background. Most current set-- arrow-printed, wine letters on a pale blue background--I got the shirt from SororityStuff!
Of course we wear our letters, OnePlus! We're extremely proud to be Greek!

The first set of letters that we receive at Sigma Kappa (Cal State Long Beach), are the official house letters, a grey sweatshirt with white satin letters outlined with purple embrodiery and with CSULB embrodiered in purple underneath.
I have about 5 other sets of letters
- My pledge class letters- white hooded sweatshirt with bright pink on black letters
-black hooded sweatshirt with teal letters on silver
-grey hooded sweatshirt with pale pink letters on white, with "i'm a lil snakey k..." embrodiered underneath
-black sweatshirt with glittery purple star fabric on silver
-white sweatshirt with lavender letters on marroon.
It sure makes getting dressed everymorning easy!!!

I still occassionally wear my first letters - 15 years old as well -but still look OK.
I also have a favorite letters shirt - black shirt, then Purple Green and Gold LXA letters, topped with black letters...gives kind of a neon sign look to them...they are about 12 years old.
Both still worn with pride (though I do have to suck it in a bit for the first letters shirt!)

I recieved my first set at my Big ceremony. They were my family letters. It's a navy sweatshirt with light blue letters on a gold background. Unfortunatley the store we get them made at does not carry the light blue fabric anymore so we have to change them! I'm sad about it since I'm really big on tradition.:(

My first letters were given to me by my heart sister. A heart sister is a temperary big. But once we got a big we had to give our letters back to our heart sister. I lucked out because my heart sister ended up being my big! ZLAM- UDZETA :D

My first letters were on a kelly green jersey with pink cuffs (DZ colors). The letters were pink to match the cuffs. :) I still have that shirt, although I haven't worn it in years.

My first sweatshirt was old as the hills because it was a family line sweatshirt (purple sweatshirt with gold and purple letters). The first one that I got that I would wear was a navy sweatshirt with kelly green letters on white. I still have that sweatshirt, and it still fits :) Our new member class got screen printed sweatshirts in hunter green and white, and they're the bomb. EVERYONE wants them.

I got ALL the old letters from my Big when I was initiated.. some that gad been passed down since 1985, and they were uuugglllllyyyyy. I passed those down to my little, and she'll pass them on to Liz (my new grandlittle! yay!). I still have my first VERY OWN set though, the ones my Big had made for me- navy blue long sleeve, white background and MC Escher-like cartoon fish letters. They're so worn adn soft, I love them.
Our family letters are a black sweatshirt, tie-dye background and black letters (*they look badass*). For my best friend's birthday, I ordered her a set just like them with DG letters (she's a DG at ST. Louis University). I can't wait till she gets them!
I am now addicted to orderin letters from designergreek.com; they are so fast and affordable! Most recently I got a black sweatshirt with white background and shimmery gold letters, and a white tshirt with black background and purple-pink-gold batik print letters.
We alwasy wear our letters on Tuesdays here too :)

I got my first sweater letters at initiation. I still have that 5 year old, faded forest green sweater with white LSPi letters on them. I added my fraternity nickname on the upper back with a small, clawing siberian tiger. Grrrrrrrrrrrowl :)

I still have my first shirt with letters on it. It's too little now, I guess I had a growth spurt :p but it's gray with maroon and white letters on it. I was one of the first intiates of my chapter, so I didn't have a big sister. I bought all my first GSS stuff myself.

My first set of letters were given to me on the day I was initiated by my big sis, as we weren't allowed to wear letters, only Pi Phi spelled out, until we were initiated. My family tradition was to have letters that went down the right side of the sweatshirt vertically instead of the usual across the chest. They were on a light grey sweatshirt, and were tiny flowers outlined in green. I was so excited to FINALLY get to wear them.
My UGLIEST letters were ones that I bought myself when I was a junior -- white letters with navy polk-a-dots, with a navy background letter, on a forest green sweatshirt -- bad enough, but when I washed them the first time the background letter ran onto the white/polkadot letters, turning the white a horrible greenish/blue! They were awful. I passed them on to my grandlittle as a joke when I was a senior, and I hear that they are still being passed on 6 years later...at least they had longevity!

The Phi Psis at Butler are the only house that I consistently see wearing their letters. I guess the guys here think they are too cool for letters or something!

I got my first set of Delta Kappa Phi (local) letters from my Big Sister - and I still have them. They are daisy (our flower) print on a navy long sleeve t-shirt.
A good friend of mine gave me my first set of AOII letters. I definitely still have them as it was only 2 years ago! :) They are a navy and white plaid on a grey t-shirt.

hey, i just got out of our meeting and nationals was there and doing a ritual review with us. they told us that at some schools you will not see phi psi's wearing their letters. and some don't have them on the house. he said that back in the day the letters were used very descretly, just like phi gamma delta now, FIJI. phi gamma delta and phi kappa psi make up the jeff duo. i thought it was all very interesting.

okay so i might be kinda sorta seeing this "new member" of a fraternity here.
i say "might be kinda sorta" because while i love his brothers, and would do anything for them, they have some wild pledging rules, and he got NAILED cause i stayed at his house while i sobered up so i wouldn't drive home drunk.
anyway - topic of post - i was thinking of buying him a set of letters for when he gets initiated. kicker - the fraternity will know that they weren't a passed down set, and 90% of the guys don't have letters once they get a little brother (i'm not saying i understand why they just won't go out and buy themselves a set)
anyway - goodness i'm long winded today - would it be super taboo to buy him a set of letters, it wouldn't be his "first" set, but it would be the first of his that aren't passed down
okay, shutting up now...
