When I was an undergrad, we always made jokes about TFJ. As a new member, we went nuts trying to figure out what it stood for! Did anyone else do the same thing?

These are some of the phrases we spun out of it:
The Final Journey (my pledge sister Jill was sure this was it)

I always get a riot out of asking the new girls. I was always tripped up by the J when I was going through. I've heard a lot of True Friends Joined, and this semester one girl told me True Friends Joke!! One of my sisters' names is Julie and she told me it meant Totally For Julie! I have only had one new member guess it right on the nose though....but of course I told her she was wrong! I hope she couldn't have seen my face.....I'm sure the look of utter horrified surprise would have given it away!:eek:

Our new girls are trying desperately to figure it out. We think that one of our girls who quit may have told some of them what it means. :mad: To negate this, I slipped to my WONDERFUL new lil' that it means together forever joined, so that is the new buzz at me chapter. I just want it to come from the chapter when they hear it. That made it so meaningful to me.

It seemed to take me forever to figure it out. I was so set on finding out what it ment that I totally missed it during initiation...after it was said everyone looking at me realized that I had finally figured it out when the light bulb above my head lit up...it was kinda funny just because I was paying so much attention just so I could figure out what TFJ ment that I totally missed it!

*This* was the thread I have been looking for. So as you all know, I was initiated on March 25. I read this thread before then and got a kick out of the stories of the new girls trying to guess what TFJ is. Well I want you to know that I really listened for this part during my ceremony because I didnt want to miss it lol!
Of course I didnt, because it was repeated several times...but I wanted you all to know I was thinking of this while I was being initiated ;)

Apparently my chapter is really weird then.....we never speak or write TFJ, only when we are in ritual. We would never say anything to our new girls about even the remote possibilty of these letters meaning anything. Its our own little secret.

Our pledge class did the same thing. We actually got it but the actives told us we were wrong! The frats around here like to think that it stands for "Too Fucking Jealous"

<laughs> TFJ was written on a cup given to me when I was picked up, so I asked what it meant and received the usual "Thanks for Joining!". It actually never occurred to me that it might mean something different until, of course, initiation. I guess I'm gullible like that :D

Right before initiation, one of the girls sent the new members an email that gave 50 TFJs...I'll have to find it. It was funny:)

i was initiated as an alumni jan. 31...but the year before while i was with the other ladies of Alpha Xi, written on a window of the house was TFJ. myself and my other pledge class sister were going through a dictionary trying to figure out what TFJ stood for...we decided to stay with thanks for joining...i thought it was together forever joined...now that i know what it means...i tell my fiance (who's a TKE and hates that he doesn't know what TFJ stands for and even more so that i absolutely refuse to tell him), when he asks, TFJ is AXD...it drives him crazy...because it's true... :-D

I had the biggest, stupidest grin on my face during initiation when the true meaning was explained. I thought everyone was going to burst out laughing because it totally was a light-bulb moment and I know it showed. I was so surprised when one of my pledge sisters didn't catch it ... I thought it was so obvious!

Regardless, I still smile whenever I hear it. And it's true ... TFJ is AXiD :)

My chapter did "thanks for joining" mainly - there were a few other but I can't remember them at this point...

I also almost completely missed the meaning during initiation! I was so intently focused that I only heard the last part and was like "oh no! i missed it!!" I caught it all after the second initiation I went through when the next pledge class was initiated, plus I also caught some of the other details I missed the first time around, which I think gave me a better insight into our sisterhood. I honestly didn't really try to figure it out though - I kinda knew it was something that only sisters knew and didn't want to spoil the fun of finding out first hand during ritual.
