Ok we have a thread about people meeting their significant others but not one about meeting their friends. I know mine is a really weird story but oh well here goes.
Ok when we first moved to TN I was like 8 and we moved into these apts while our house was being finished.Well the people across the hall from us were doing the same thing*waiting on their house* Anyways one day I was outside making some ice cream with my 3 min Ice Cream Maker*haha member those* and the kid across the hall was outside on his little balcony too making creepy crawlers*I know you have to remeber those too* Anyways for some odd reason he just started throwing them at me. Then we started racing to get them :) haha anyways after that it was a history. We have been best friends ever since*9 years now!!* His parents are even my little sister's god parents!! haha Does anyone else have a wierd way that they met their best friend??

I met Erica at summer camp at Duke University in 1995, the summer we turned 14 (I'm now 20). We were inseperable for those two weeks and kept in touch until camp the next year, and then spent high school trying to figure out when we could visit each other (I lived in South Carolina, she lived in St. Louis). I surprised her at her high school graduation, and this summer she drove cross country with me on the Mother of All Road Trips. She's like my sister... it's the most amazing relationship.
A cool thing... I pledged my freshman year and she didn't really understand... but on our road trip this summer I got to explain to her what the sorority really means to me, and although she kept saying, "I don't think it's for me," and "I just don't like girls that much," she wasn't as contentious about Greek Life as she had been before. Welllll..... she is now a founding sister of St. Louis University's Delta Gamma Colony!!! So I helped bring one more into the fold :)

I have many people who I consider my best friend. One of them I met in 4th grade. She lived right down the street from me and we've been friends ever since.
My other one: we met sophomore year in high school. We met through a mutual friend and now we are roommates.
Another one: She was in my pledge class. We're now inseperable.

Well, I have 2 sets of best friends, so I guess I will tell both stories--
My 5 high school best friends I met my sophomore year of high school. I was dating a guy that went to a different school and I was completely unhappy with my friends at my current highschool--they were really just mean and petty. So, one night, I was out with my boyfriend and all of his friends, complaining about how much I hated my school and they were like, "well, transer here and we will be your new best friends" and I looked at Stephen and was like "would you mind" and he just smiled and said no. So I went home, talked about it with my mom and dad and made the decision to transfer schools at the semester break(it was a private school). It was a GREAT decision! The girls that were my boyfriends friends were wonderful and are still today my best friends, even though Stephen and I broke up a year later. I am even a bridesmaid in one of their weddings next year. The crazy thing is they had all been friends since kidnergarten and I came in sophomore year, yet it was like I had been there forever. We always laugh that I just must have been a part of them in another life!
My second group of best friends were from college. I met the first part of my group because she was one of my AOTT pledge sisters and I thought she was so funny! She and I became good friends and decided to live together(with another sister) our junior year. She was laviliered to a Lambda Chi, so we did everything with that fraternity and through her and all of those guys, I met my group of 8 best friends, jokingly referred to as the Lambda Chi groupies(we liked to think we would have been little sisters if Elon would have allowed that). They were and still are my favorite part of college and I still talk to most of them everyday. It was neat too because we were all different sororities, but we knew we were all best friends too. We even had our own little secret saying (SHMILY), and we would laugh and say we were the AXiPi(and Kappa's), because it was a mix of AXiD, AOTT, and Sigma Kappa. I guess I am pretty lucky to have such amazing friends!

I have what I would consider 3 best friends all of whom I met in college. All three of them were in my wedding, and I still talk to them at least once a week (pretty good considering we are spread throughout the country).
I consider myself very lucky because 2 of them are my big and lil. I was a bridesmaid in my big's wedding and the matron of honor in my lil's.
The other I met through my husband. She and I were both little sister's of his fraternity and he was her "big brother". He introduced us one day, and we were pretty much inseperable after that (I don't know if he knew what he was doing ).:D

Well right now I have 3 really great best friends. The first one I met when I was in 5th grade and we had a huge choir concert with all 6 elementary schools in my district. We put on the disney spectacular, and well the one director was really scary, she got up on the desk, took off her shoe and banged it on the desk to get our attention, and well, we ran behind this moveable chalkboard and well, the rest is history! :) The sad thing is shes very anti greek!
Well, then my second best friend, and I met when we were in HS, we bicker like theres no tomorrow, but shes still my friend!!! :)
Then my third I met then the Second took me to a party at another of her friends houses, they were fighting cos they liked the same boy, and well I met Mary Beth there... and she and I clicked, she is a Phi Sigma Sigma too... and also in Tau Beta Sigma, shes coming to visit this weekend!! :)
(she dosent go here anymore!)

I met my best friend Steph in third grade.
She had recently moved by me, and there were a lot of kids our age in the neighborhood. She never came out to play and she never talked to us, and that made us young kids mad! We wanted to meet her and play with her (or tease her, it was at that age) but she never wanted to do anything. So...one day at the bus stop in the morning, I decide it was a funny thing to start throwing gummy worms at her. So, I'm standing about 10 feet away from her, just hurling these things left and right and everytime I'd hit her, we'd all start laughing and doing that, "nah nah nah nah nah" thing, remember that? Well anyway..she started getting mad and told me to stop. So I said something like, "WOW, it talks." Well, she didn't like me calling her it too much so she got really mad and started chasing me. So I take off flying, running as fast as I can, as far as I can away from her. She is on my tail like crazy, so I keep running, and looking back every few seconds to see where she was. A few seconds later we started running around my house, which was quite a ways away from the bus stop, I keep looking back to see where she is, run around the corner and "BLAM." LOL..forgot about the air conditioner sticking out of the house! I ran right into the thing, oh it hurt so bad. It made Blaine all dizzy, hurt, and teary eyed. So she felt bad that she was chasing me, and she went to get my parents. All the time she is crying saying how sorry she was, and she was helping take care of me (holding an ice pack on my head). And, the rest is basically history, I've been really really close with her ever since, but she goes to school in Colorado and we don't get to talk that much anymore :(

Being the loving person I have several best friends. My oldest best friend is Kim...we met back in 6th grade when we were both in choir together. Two people could not be more alike. We look alike, think alike, act alike, and even talk alike. We've been through a lot together even almost stopped talking to each other but somehow we always reconnect and we're still really really close.
Next there is Kayla...I started being friends with her because I had a crush on her brother. It's really a bad reason to be friends with someone but hey...I was a freshman in high school. Anyways...I finally figured out that her brother is a dork and we've been friends ever since. Kayla, Kim, and I are basically the three muscateers...we do everything together.
Then there is Miriam. Miriam and I had a class together our first semester here at LSU. I always sat in front of her and her little group of friends. I really started out disliking Miriam because I thought she was loud and obnoxious. Then I decided to try informal rush for my sorority that following spring. Well I walk up to the room that they were having the rush event at in the union and guess who is the first person to come talk to me????? You guessed it...it was Miriam. We were casual friends all during my first semester in Sigma Alpha. Then when I became an active we started getting closer. I think the dynamic of our whole friendship changed when she called me one night at 3 am needing a ride home. She sounded scared and I was really worried about her. I jumped out of bed and ran to my car to go get her. I knew then that we would be best friends because I'm not gonna do that for just anyone.
My last best friend is Lisa. Lisa and I met when she started working where I work. She's only 4 years older than me and we started hanging out after work. Lisa and I can act totally goofy together and yet turn around and have a really serious conversation. She just loveeeeeeees picking on me about my boyfriends or the new guy I like. We haven't been friends for that long but I don't know what I would do without her.

I don't really have a girl best friend right now. I've always been on a best friend merry-go-round. My best friend from K-6 dropped me when she became a cheerleader and got "too good" for me. We sort of worked things out in 8th grade, and were on speaking terms in HS, but she was forever part of the cool crowd from then on, and I was just me.
One of my other best friends was with me from 6th grade on up. But she found a boyfriend here and hangs out with him and his friends now all the time. They're a very cliqueish group, into Dungeons and Dragons and Anime, stuff that I don't care about at all. So, I wouldn't be "allowed" to hang with them. But when Kathryn and I get to see each other, we always have a lot of catching up to do.
My soph year in HS, I met Anne. She was super smart, cynical, very much like Daria. We got along great, and she was my best friend for soph and jr year. After she graduated (she's a year ahead of me) she went to college in PA and never came home, except maybe for Christmas once or twice. We used to email each other 10 times a day, but she found her own friends and own life up there and doesn't have time for me anymore. We we are able to get together its very strained - she's turned Wiccan and Vegan, and she's just not the same person as before.
I'm pretty good friends with 2 of my roomates, but they've been best friends since 9th grade, so I'm still on the outside of that, a bit.
My best friend though is my boyfriend, Josh. He and I have such an amazing friendship, that I know if he weren't my boyfriend, he'd be my best guy pal. But I'm glad I have him as both :D

Ok - I met my best friend from home when we were in the third grade - I know it was at recess, but I forget exactly how. My best girl friend from home, I had a crush on her in kindergarten. That whole thing didn't work out, but we've been tight ever since (although we've grown apart a little since college started). My best friends in college (one of whom is KSigRC), I met through pledging - there's a group of us that basically hang out every weekend, we just met through rush and pledging, and the rest is a very drunken history.

We were both in the same dance class, freshman year of high school. I actually had another friend that was in the same class that I had known since junior high. The friend I knew since junior high introduced me to my best friend. I was nice and polite to her, but i didnt really talk to her much. She just kind of hung out on her own in that class since she didnt really know too many girls in there. Well my friend from junior high moved a couple of months later, so since i didnt know anyone else, i started talking to my best friend since i had briefly met her when school started (that was mean, i know). Anyway, we got to know each other better as the school year went on, and then we both made drill team together! :) We were best friends all through high school, then she followed me to Baylor because we wanted to be roommates! After that I transferred to UH and she went somewhere else.
Our friendship isnt like it used to be, I think we both have changed and are growing apart. I dont really have a best friend now- except for my parents. I know thats cheesy but I can always count on them, and no matter what, I know they will always love me :)

Oh and to reply to the best friend thing... I met mine at Baylor! We became really close last year because we hated BU, and now we're all at different schools -Ole Miss, A&M, and USD (one's still at Baylor) but we are all still REALLY close and 2 of them just flew out here to CA to visit me!

One of my best friends and I met when were paired up as "buddies" on a 5th grade trip to Sacremento. She had just moved from SF. Well...that trip changed my life. We have a relationship where we can not talk for 20 years and pick up right where we left off. She taught me how to drive, how to cry and how to find myself. I love her with all my heart.
My best guy friend and I met in Jr. High. I had a crush on his brother. We grew up in the same social circle and we never talked to much. Finally I hit Soph year of HS and he was in my Bio class. I thought he was such a dork and mocked him horribly. We even used to throw stuff at eachother during lab and get in trouble. Well, this poor kid ended up liking on of my girlfriends and I hooked them up. She treated him horribly and I was there for him through out the whole thing. We ended up talking more and more. You know....the little things happened...we would wait for eachother after class by thge lockers, call eachother for "lab help." We even started making lunches for eachother. Then one day I had a party at my house and his friends came up to me and told me "Christ!Would you guys just get together already." That night I asked him to the Sadie Hawkins dance (Winter formal) and he kissed me. He was my "first love." We have been "special friends" for over 4.5 years now and our parents joke about us getting married.
God...that was corny.

What school do you go to now? I go to UH, but i transferred from Baylor because i didnt like the town. Waco has to be one of the worst towns ever ! Plus, back then I didnt have a car to get me to the tiny mall or wherever i needed to go. I always had to ask my friends to take me, luckily they loved shopping as much as I did. The people there were also very stuck up, and into very shallow things. I got really homesick the entire year I was there, and while I did make really good friends, it was just not my cup of tea. I am so much happier at UH! :D
The only thing i liked about the mall was that there was this little shop that made funnel cakes, popcorn, candy apples and all those kind of yummy things! :) Oh and the Old Navy in there seemed like it had everything on sale all the time !

My best friend from home and I met in the 7th grade. I thought she was cool, and I found out that she like a guy who lived by me. I invited her to come trick-or-treating with me, and we could stop by his house. We didn't end up seeing him, but we bonded in a major way! It's almost 10 years later, and we get closer all the time. It hurts that I'm in school, and she's not...sometime it seems as if we're leading different lives. I wish that she could have the opportunities that I have. But when I go home for break, or we call or email, it's like nothing has changed! We speak in our own language and everything is a reference to an inside joke...*sighs* I miss her!

actually, it's funny, my one best friend I met at work , actually at our interview to get hired for the job that I work now. we just happened to start chatting and she liked my bracelet. Then we were assigned the same interview table . Then we of course got the job(:D) The after that we always hung out so people called us twins or something(I forgot what they used to call us) and they we both realized how much more we had in common, like we have the same design on our tattos, we like the same things. We are just totally the same it's the greatest.
My other best friend, duh my sister. I met her after she pledged She is the greatest , she is always there for and we just work together and straighten out the worst of all situations. Thats my girl :)
My other best friend, I met when I moved into my dorm quad a yr or so ago now. We been friends ever since. she's my reality check friend, my ego putter in placer, my what were you thinking when u did that.

I met my one of my best friends in a kinda weird way! My best friend Andrea is actually the little sister of my ex-boyfriend! Haha! I was dating her brother Joel during grade 11 and we became friends..such good friends infact that she helped me out during mine and Joel's breakup! We've been best friends ever since (so about 8 years now!) She was my maid of honor too!
My other best friend (Chad) I met when I was a kid in our youth bowling league! We've been best friends for about 14 years now....and although we don't see each other much (he's in Alberta, I'm in Florida!) we chat all the time and are still the best of friends!
Wow...this post really made me miss ALL my friends (they're all not in Florida....most are in Nova Scotia :( )

In 2nd grade, which would have been the fall of '79, Julie and I were both new at our school. We had each gone to private schools before and both wanted to change and go to the public school with all the other kids. We were in the same class and we just instantly hit it off....we were both considered "gifted" and were allowed to work on special projects together during regular class time. We also were rather, uh....SPIRITED together and it was seen to that we were never in the same class again until 8th grade. We had some rough times late in elementary school/early jr. high, but we really came back together in 8th grade when we did a film project together in which we played these old ladies, Myrt and Bert (Myrtle Pickle and Bertha Popplestone.) They became our alter egos, and we even brought my mom in on it....Julie bestowed the name Peaches on her and Peaches she remained for the rest of her life!!!! Anyway, we went to different high schools but stayed close, and even when we became separated in college we made an effort to keep it together. She now lives in Alexandria, VA and she is still my very best friend.

my true best friend I met when we were in second grade. I went outside to go play by myself one day and I ;iterally ran smack into her and her brother coming out the door. She lived in the house behind us and it turned out we went to the same school. We lived next door to each other all the way up until we went to college and she just moved back with her husband and baby.
I met my clique (or 5 musketeers as weve been called), 2 in 9th and 2 in 11th and wev'e all been best friends ever since, but its kind of distancing.

Well my BEST friend and I have been backdoor neighbors since we were three. And actually while our mothers where pregnant we "met". His mom and my dad were taking the same MBA classes and there was a spouses night or something of the sort, and so we "met" then. Once he moved in behind me, then it was lots of time spent playing in the sandbox together, and with the exception of a view hiatuses during junior high, we've always been each other's closest friends. And while we may not spend all our time together, we've been the one absolute constants in each others lives. It's been really weird having him be 2 hours away rather than 2 seconds.
My best friend here at school, my ex-girlfriend introduced me to her the third or fourth day of school, and it turned out we have two classes together and two recitations as well. Just by talking after class and the like we've become really good friends.

My HS best friend and I met at a HS Basketball game. I was a cheerleader, junior and she was a freshman. This one girl was going to kick her ass after the game, she said she was screwing around with her boyfriend, who was actually my b/f's boyfriend, he was dating them both and had no clue.
So, we were just chatting about something and the girls started coming after her...I grabbed her and we ran to my car, went to Taco John's and hid out all night just talking laughing and getting to know her. The girls didn't ever come after her again because they worked at my dad's DQ. Funny!

It was my sophmore year in high school and it was the welcome back assembly. I had told my friends that we would meet outside the gym so we could walk in together and be near each other. So i didn't see them so I walked in and I just walked up the bleachers, I don't know what made me sit down next to this girl, but she I asked if the seat was taken and I told her what my friends had done to me lol etc, then i introduced myself...Monday at school in my geometry class I noticed the same red head, so I called out to her and she came over and sat next to me, we've been inseperable since. We went through junior year, senior year and did senior class cabinet and other activities, then college came and we both pledged the same sorority! I'm soo happy! She'll always be my best friend!

He was the leader and i was the one who had to convince him why he should he lead us in something different to achieve better results. The same thing happened during pledging. I met my best friend back in 1974 when we were in 5th grade. She had just moved to the area. I was riding my bike around the corner and stopped at her house since she wanted to know where the store was. The rest is history. For the past 28 years, we've been bestfriends inspite of career moves and family changes. Not to mention that we are both sorority sisters (Delta Sigma Theta).

I met my best friend in kindergarten. Her last name is Savini and mine was Schopf, so we sat next to each other in the circle on the carpet. We both had long hair and wore pigtails all the time. Somehow, we'd constantly get our heads stuck together when one of our pigtails would catch the others ponytail holder.
We've been stuck together as best friends ever since.
That was almost 26 years ago :)

What an awesome thread!! :D I actually have 3 best friends:
BF#1- I met Erin in 5th grade, but couldn't stand her at first. Then, in 6th grade, we both made the cheerleading squad, and roomed together at cheerleading camp-and we've been best friends ever since. She's in New York now, and I see her about once a year, but we email every day-I just luf her.
BF#2-Tiffany and I met on our first day of Freshman Algebra in hs. Our desks were set up in little clusters of 4, and Erin and I were sitting at one cluster. Tiff walked up to us, and asked if she could sit in one of the empty desks, and Erin looks her straight in the face and says no. Then she and I burst out laughing-Tiffany stared at us like we were insane, but sat down anyway. The three of us email everyday. I don't know what I'd do without the 2 of them.
BF#3- My parents were friends with Amy's parents, and my Mom was always trying to get us together, but I wasn't interested. Then, I found out that Amy was trying to get into nursing school at the same time I was. When we both finally were accepted, we would go to all the Orientation stuff together...and sit in class together...and commiserate about school together...and now we're inseperable. If we don't see each other everyday, we're on the phone with each other. She's so funny, sarcastic, smart-and she gets me to class on time!!:p

I have two best friends and both of them are because of friendships that have gone bad with others and ended up bringing us together.
Best friend #1 (Jen) was friends with one of my sorority sisters. All three of us were dating guys from the same fraternity (Delta Tau Delta). Eventually we all dumped the guys that we were dating and started dating three new guys...who also happened to be in the same fraternity (Lambda Chi Alpha). The relationship my sorority sister was in did not last so she didn't like to hang out at that fraternity. She graduated from college and became a huge drama queen and thought that she was too good to hang out with us. Jen and I are still with the same guys three years later. We don't talk to the other girl because she recently made an ass out of herself at my little sisters engagment party. She got totally wasted and caused a big scene when Jen showed up.
Best friend #2 (Susan) was best friends with one of my good friends (both were in my sorority). They lived together and I decided I wanted to move out of my parents house. Their lease was up on their apartment so we all moved into a house. That's where things went bad. The other girl we lived with was telling us lies about each other and our boyfriends. She always wanted to be the center of attention. She always got mad at us for having boyfriends so she tried everything in her power to break both of us up. We soon moved to a townhouse and ended up kicking her out. Susan and I have been best buddies ever since. She is also still with the same guy :) We have not seen or heard from our ex-roommate/ex-friend in quite some time and we are perfectly happy to keep it that way.

I am older then by best friend by two years. We lived next to each and then I move to a different state but I would come back and visit at my old house that my grandparents were living in. Then I moved back and we have been best buds since then! We both have different personalities which makes going out together a ton of fun! We are both very busy so it is hard to find time to hang out.

I met my best friend Amanda in my 6th grade English class. She sat next to me and I remember thinking what pretty long hair she had. I had always wanted longer hair but for some odd reason i always ended up cutting it short. WE began talking one day in class and ever since then we've been best friends.
We have been through good times and bad times. No matter what she has always been there for me, whether it be in the middle of the day or 3 am in the morning. Never once has she turned her back on me and for that i love her like a sister.
Amanda has always been the type of girl to uh.....do goofy things. I wouldn't call her an airhead b/c she is REALLY SUPER smart. But she has done some things that crack everyone up. For example, at prom she REALLY had to go to the bathroom and i accompanied her. Well, i guess she got to the point where she really really really had to go so she just walked into the nearest bathroom door. Well, that bathroom door happened to be the MEN's room and just as she walked in, her crush of 4 years was walking out. He gave her a funny look and she turned red. Poor girl, but seriously, me and my other friends tried soooo hard not to laugh. Needless to say, that was difficult. She didnt get too embarrassed, she laughed so hard afterwards she couldnt believe she actually did that :)

My bestfriend and I have been friends for 17 years this september! We met her 1st day at school. I had started Crofton House in grade 1 and she started in grade 2. I don't really remember much of it because we were only 7 but we played together and went to each other's birthday parties. The cool thing about the school we went to was that it was a private school so we went to the same school the whole way through. It was neat entering our teen years together, and boys and dates and dances and getting our licenses. After graduation we both went to UBC. Even though we were involved in different things (she did go through rush with me but didn't join) we remained good friends and are as close as ever. It neat when we talk about the past because we have different memories and remind each other of things that happened whether it be grade 4 or grade 10 or 2nd year university.

I have had the same two best friends for the lonnnngest time. The three of us grew up together and man, we had the best times!!! I met one of them in 1st grade, Jessie, b/c my daddy and her daddy worked together and she lived right down the street from me. The other one, Sara, I met in 2nd grade when her mom and my mom decided to carpool since she lived across the park from me. And then the rest is history! We're still best friends today, regardless of the fact that we all go to school in three different very FAR from each other states, but it's still wonderful!!

I met my high school best friend in the 6th grade. She was part of the "popular" group ever since 4th grade, and that group picked me as the scapegoat of the class and teased me mercilessly from 4th thru the 6th grade (we were a self contained Gifted/Talented class, so we just changed teachers together each year). Well, things were absolutely awful, that group sat together at a table (gifted kids don't get desks, we get tables!!! ), and were really exclusive and mean. I guess the teacher had enough of it, and felt really bad for me. So she created assigned seating one day, and sat me and Cindy right across from each other. It was like instant friendship. . .I still don't know how it happened. I didn't become "popular", and she "fell a couple of notches", but the group power was broken, and things got so much better.
Thank God for the teacher with the insight!!!!!! (Her name is Mrs. Mahan)
